android compatibility

Hi all, I was wondering if android apps developed using API level 2.2 will work on android systems that are newer, for example use API 16, or would I have to recreate apps using the higher API levels?

Generally speaking, yes. Most advanced features will degrade gracefully to earlier versions.

I've tested a v1.5 app with all major Android releases and found no major issues. Same with v2.0 apps. Mark

Yes, but the same is not true in the reverse depending on the feature used. Fred

Alright, sweet, so I shouldn't have any major problems. Still very new at it and just wanted to be clear as to what I was getting myself into haha. Thanks all Khalid

Yep, you should be good. Remember that you're compiling against the Google APIs, not the Android APIs. But the same thought holds true...newer versions of the API should be good, and older ones (like really old ones) may not have support for all the functionality you want (though they would have to be really old ones, and not advised to compile against anyway). Long way of saying that if you use the newer Google APIs, you shouldn't have any problems! Mark
