Push Notification Install

Alot of people in the buzztouch community have push notifications, but the question is which one is the easiest to install and which ones are free? Thanks, Jack

What platform, iOS or Android. For iOS I like Parse, easy to setup with a slick interface.

I concur with MacApple and I found Parse is one of the easier solutions in Android too.

I agree with MacApple Parse.com is easy to use and setup. There is a forum user that created an easy to follow YouTube video that shows you have to configure with your BT app. Search the forum for Parse and you should find it easily. EDIT: Here are the links to the YouTube videos created by forum user lsills81 on how to setup Parse with BT app. Part 1: This is just the Apple provisioning part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHG7V8q0I_E Part 2: This is the Parse.com and Xcode (BONUS: Code Signing too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzmqCij-V1I

A loud resounding Parse for iOS then! Happy days.

If I may chime in, I love Urban Airship, It's free and fast. I actually just did my first tutorial on my website about it: http://steaminghotcocoa.thecodemonsters.com/?p=1

Nice one, always more than one way to skin a cat. If, that is, you are into skinning cats. I for one, am not. Friday yet?

@MacApple Haha, APN's are APN's are APN's. To be honest, there's no real "BEST" solution since it is all Apple's servers pushing the messages anyways.

Has anyone figured out how to generate a push from a web form on their website instead of using Parse's website ? Alan

@AlanMac, I don't think that it's possible unless you have access to Parse's API's. You should probably contact them to see if you can get access.

@theMonster, I asked and Parese advised me to use their published REST api. They made it sound simple, the problem I have come up against is my lack of knowlege. In theory a solution would be a php form (or maybe ajax/javascript) with a text input field, with something that counts the number of characters for a message. Include the parse keys for your account and your app and sprinkle in a bit of coding magic and it should be possible (in theory). All I need is a modern day Merlin...

The thing about Parse is that for some things, they (seem to) assume that the people who use their excellent products are black belt coders themselves. They do provide some example code snippets, but not complete examples. Personally, I do not think the REST api is as easy to use as they want me to think it is.

Awesome @theMonster! Most of the images to your guide seem to be broken - might want to check on that. Cheers mate. David buzztouchmods.com

AlanMac- I think we might be searching for the same solution. This is where Parse blows away Urban Airship - PFObjects (Maybe UA has something similar I don't see but Parse is a way more robust back-end IMO. Then again the Rich Push with UA blows away Parse1) regardless- I'm experementing with the PFQuery tutorial they post in a BT plug-in. Still some days of reading and experementing to go, not 100% focused on it. Once/If I get that working - this is the next step i plan to try: https://github.com/srhyne/jQuery-Parse If JQuery is not your thing - I think there might be some other Modern Day Merlins right here for you: https://www.parse.com/docs/api_libraries again, not something I am working on right now, i'm just setting up the concept and collecting notes and looking at code, but maybe this might help you?
