Reminder Plugin?

Hello everyone. I have been working with BT for the past month or so and it has been awesome. Thanks to the forums, amazing tutorials and Mark for making it easier to understand for a novice. My question is, I am looking for hopefully to be a simple reminder feature in my app. I am only working with Android at the moment. I have searched the forums and Google and have not found anything. I saw some posts about using google calendar, but I don't want a public shared calender. I am trying to create this free app for my clients at my veterinary hospital. Along with all the other features and info that I have included I would like there to be a place that clients can manually create reminders with repetition in intervals of every hour(s), days, weeks and months. Main use will be reminder for once or twice a day antibiotic administration or more important a reminder to give/apply their animals monthly flea and tick or heart worm prevention. It would be great if there would be a notification that would appear outside my app (if it is still running in the background) but not necessary. I would like it to look like a linear simple menu with the reminders listed downwards with the date or time and description. If I can get the reminders for monthly prevention that would repeat each month, that would be a great start for me. sorry for the long post, and ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you again Howard

Hey Howard, So let me ask you - would these monthly reminders be on different days for different users? Or is it a global reminder for everyone? With that you could simply use push notifications. If not, I'm not sure if you could make a calendar that's unique to every device... maybe local storage (fred has info on that). Wish I could be more help. Cheers, David buzztouchmods.com

The beauty of using/building something with the Google Calenadar is that it will work on BOTH Platforms. I make that a big part of the decision first - cross platform and also think: You get a free back-end for someone to admin the cal. Otherwise if you're gonna build a native timer/enent reminder: iOS: that will be working with LOCAL NOTIFICATIONS Android: that will involve working with the AlarmManager. I've played with NSTimer classes on iOS and just started looking at the Android code for some possible uses. I'm not playing with it currently but this is a good/simple tutorial I used to get me started. http://justcallmebrian.com/?p=129 I bet there are more great AlarmManager tutorials/projects out there...

Thank you for your replies. David, yes- this will be for individual user and not viewed globally. For example, Say a client gives their dogs prevention on the 5th day of each month, it is recommended that they continue that prevention on or around the same time every month in the future. I would like like them to be able to create a new event or reminder chose the date and then chose frequency, ie. every day, week, month. This would not be the same for everyone, another client may give their pets prevention the 14th of the month. So it needs to be customized per clients own events. I would also like to have the abiltiy for client to enter reminders for their next appointment that may be in 2 weeks, 3 or 4 weeks. I hope that makes more sense. Atrain- I will check out working with alarmmanager. Thanks again,

Just an after thought... The alarm manager would be useful if I wanted it to notify the user when something is due, correct. If so, maybe I can work up to that. But for now.perhaps making it more simple. What about just starting with the ability to have the user create their own list with dates and description. Once one item is due and tap it or dismiss it, if it set to remind or repeat every 30 days, it will recreate the reminder or item for the next month?
