iPhone 4S vs Galaxy III

Just left Best Buy and found an interesting observation from an employee. He said no one is buying the iPhone and everyone is buying the Galaxy III. He noted the the screen size is what caught everyone's attention. This post is not to diminish the iPhone4S but to note that it's all about size. Build you apps for tablets, and the upcoming phone/tablets. Galaxy Note 5.2", Galaxy Note 2 5.5", iPhone 5 4.2"? If size is what people are buying, its what we/you should be selling. Fred

Most reports say iPhone sales are slowing down due to the September release of the iPhone 5. I am currently learning and developing to ios, using background photos to make pretty sexy looking screens due to android having dozens of different size screens how does it work. I'm gonna have to make android equivalents of these apps soon.

I've noticed that some Buzztouch developers are not testing their apps for tablets. Some of the larger phone are considered large devices and will not display the images unless you also enter the image name in the large device box in the control panel. Fred

it would be nice if it was easy to develop for android, i find iOS much simpler, and there is more money to be made from apple customers. Thats just me though.

@ceerup that is NOT just you, that is fact. Android users want free....take Google Play, it looks cheap. Nothing about it says, high quality. Reminds me of what an app store would look like if "Dollar General" ran it. For me Android only represents advertising revenue.

To go back to Fred's comment about tablets, specifically Android. On most of them there's no hardware 'menu' button, or in later phone versions (they use 'action bars' now). Considering there are default menu options in bt apps, nobody with tablets or later phones can access them.

ohh. Revmob you get from 1 dollar up to 3 dollars per click and install. If they dont install what they clicked from the advertisement you dont get paid. But its worth it because the payout is great. Admob doesnt pay much thats another thing i use, but for android

@raveyd, I've been using several Buzztouch apps and haven't noticed a problem. My tablet has a on screen back button (same thing, is just not "hardware"). Which features are you referring to? Fred

errrr, I think it's Refresh all data and close. Not critical features. Regarding the tablet, it's that Android fragmentation again. Some can access, some can't. My friend's got a Galaxy Tablet something or other, it can't, and I've tried on a Galaxy S III. No joy either.

My 3.2" phone has no "close" button. Android consider that button unnecessary. I'm sure there's a refesh button. Fred

Say, I have been in Best Buy playing with Android Tablets, and I was able to download my free apps on their devices. They looked just great. (These were 1.5 apps). I have done this at two different stores. Funny that Best Buy hasnt locked this down. But it is handy!

@SusanMetoxen what a fantastic idea! go into electrical retailers and download all your free apps to the devices, leave it on the home screen and you have foot traffic casually browsing your apps all day (providing the staff dont remove them) - good opportunity for a bit of exposure especially in large towns/cities

Maybe. I can only go by what I see around me. Nobody I know has an iphone, they're all Blackberry, Samsung or HTC. Maybe it's the realistic price points in the UK for non-apple devices on contract?

@theMonster I think you need to remember to "consider the source".....Best Buy hourly employee's are know for their ignorance . They will tell you something different every day (just depends on what they are told to sell that day). I am curious to know why this Best Buy employee didn't mention that the GS3 is having antenna-gate issue (like the iPhone) but much worse. My girlfriend, who works at Verizon, told me they have boxes of DOA Samsung phones....it's with all the carriers too. Not just signal issues but the entier phone has to be returned to Samsung. @raveyd How much is an iPhone on contract there? Why not just buy a US iPhone and use your sim card? With the new Qualcomm Gobi modem chip set they are world phones now. I would be more then happy to send you an iPhone (just paypal me). I met a guy on Craigslist and he buys iPhones from me and takes them to Russia so I am sure this would work for you as well....

well, various prices @Isills81. I'm with T-Mobile, where a 4S 32gb is something like 60 quid (95ish dollars) a month on a two year contract + an up front £30 for the phone. Compare GS3 and HTC One X, nothing up front, 30 quid a month, 12 month contract. iPhone just doesn't compare. Thanks for the iPhone offer, but I'm HTC all the way! They fetch big money in Russia don't they? It was on the news when one of the iphones was released that Russian gangs were buying 100's from the main London Apple store, even paying people to buy for them!

I think the key for us is to embrace both Android and iPhone. The best thing about Buzztouch is that we can develop for both. My primary phone...my first love...is my iPhone. But I just moved my old home phone number onto a Samsung Galaxy IIS. It is a beautiful phone too. I got it for 9.99usd with a service contract. So now I have both.

Interesting post today suggest that AT&T and Verizon are directing their employees to only sell Android phones even to customers seeking iPhones. In my visit to BestBuy the employees stated that they are directing customers to the Galaxy III. I don't think its an anti-iOS movement but simply that customers are much happier with the large screens available with the Android devices. The scuttlebug is that the new iPhone will be 4.05", if so I'll suggest the name will be " iPhone 4.05 F ". I'll suggest that the iPhone 5" will be released ASAP hopefully in time for Christmas Sales. Fred

OK...this will be in five parts @Fred and every living person that read that post! 1: AT&T came out and said this @Fred, "The idea that we would steer any customer away from a particular device couldn’t be more farfetched. Our reps do what it takes to align customer needs with the best device for them. iPhone remains one of our most popular devices, which doesn’t happen by steering people away from it. Our reps are encouraged to try all devices so they are more knowledgeable on our industry-leading smartphone lineup.".... direct quote. @Fred you have to remember how what you say goes far as you have been such an intricate part of the Android side of the BuzzTouch community. 2: The thought that larger and super larger phones are a better experience is not really considered true, is it? How can it be? The aspect ratio is way off - the phone is SO BIG (and that IS because they needed a large enclosure to keep the EARLY 4G radio GOING in a market where the software was slower than the connection... It's like driving a Ferrari in a school zone), you can NOT reach the entire side with one hand. That is a fact and it sucks! 3: About the thought that the iPhone could have a screen size of 4.05"..... the new iPhone (and that is the name of it - look at the iPad, and the iPad inspired the original iPhone - it was built before the original iPhone) will NOT just get bigger....it will get MORE pixels added to its display. The new iPhone display resolution will be at 640 x 1136. That’s an extra 176 pixels longer of a display. The screen will be the same 1.9632 inches wide, but will grow to 3.484 inches tall. This new resolution is very close to a 16:9 screen ratio, so this means that 16:9 videos can play full screen at their native aspect ratio. This cant be done on the Toaster sized Androids. 4. Look at the past 5 years, how Apple release's iPhones and how they test their iOS beta builds. October will be the release "TIME" within 3 months from now. 5: @Fred you are amazing and an asset to the BT Android community and I have looked to you for help, but with Apple you are wrong. Simple. Not being a dick, but if I was a newbie to the world of mobile operating systems and devices, and read that post, I would miss the genius and beauty of what the iPhone and Apple are. How Apple sacrifices everything for perfection with their products and software. You muddy the water with anti-Apple posts all the time. I understand if you want to push Android. That's great...we need multi-platforms.....we need competition...... but please use facts. Let the reader/user decide, and leave the Android rhetoric to a different less intelligent and informed communities then Buzztouch.

I knew of AT&T response, but as you noticed I speculated a reason as to why their employees are steering users to the Galaxy III. I think its pretty clear this is happening. 2: The thought that larger and super larger phones are a better experience is not really considered true, is it? How can it be? I think your arguments are valid, now tell the users buying the Galaxy III they're wrong. 3: About the thought that the iPhone could have a screen size of 4.05"..... the new iPhone (and that is the name of it - look at the iPad, and the iPad inspired the original iPhone - it was built before the original iPhone) will NOT just get bigger....it will get MORE pixels added to its display. Time will tell. 4. Look at the past 5 years, how Apple release's iPhones and how they test their iOS beta builds. October will be the release "TIME" within 3 months from now. Have you seen the latest sales data. The demand for larger screens will totally rule the market. That's great...we need multi-platforms.....we need competition...... but please use facts. Let the reader/user decide, and leave the Android rhetoric to a different less intelligent and informed communities then Buzztouch. If you read this thread you'll notice my post is not pro-Android but pro-larger screen. The market is changing quickly, the iPad Mini 7.85" will be a game changer, but a 4" iPhone will be so yesterday (Yes, it will sell millions, but it will cost Apple market share.) Currently I have two devices, but as the editor of Byte Magazine said many years ago, "I'd prefer one device over two perfect devices". We are in the post-PC World, most people don't have ready access to a PC, their phone is their computer, a 4" screen will not cut it. Yes, size does matter, hopefully I'll have the 5.5" Galaxy Note 2 soon, the 7" tablet isn't a phone and it's too large. But its much better that a 10" or 4" device. Fred

I use to think everyone had a computer but have found it's not so. Lots of people have a computer at work but they're limited in what they can do. Many go to the library. I don't presume that my experience is true for others. My experience at BestBuy was a eye opener. In less than a week various people told me what was noted about AT&T and Verizon. I would not had imagined that iPhone sales had virtually stopped (slowed yes, but not stopped). Fred

BestBuy, AT&T, Verizon, various friends and family members I see a trend there. Help two persons replace their service this past weekend. They couldn't wait 90 days. They needed a phone now. Certainly many don't need a phone now, but if you do 90 days is not an option. What surprised me was that iPhone users quickly shifted to Android, actually to Galaxy III.

2:00 PM Wow. Forstall is shown a 2011 email from Eddy Cue, in which Cue forwarded an article about a journalist dumping their iPad for a 7-inch Galaxy Tab. Cue writes "Having used a Samsung Galaxy [Tab], i tend to agree with many of the comments below... I believe there will be a 7-inch market and we should do one. I expressed this to Steve several times since Thanksgiving and he seemed very receptive the last time." Fred

I'm not saying, I'm just saying: According to a survey of 1,873 Americans conducted by CouponCodes4u.com, 78% of people said that they are likely to leave the iPad mini and pick up the new iPhone instead. 77% of those people said that already owned an iPhone already. When asked why the iPhone would be their preferred choice, 46% of people said the iPad mini was “pointless,” while 39% said that they would simply use the new iPhone more. Fred
