User Locations Mapping

Hello Everyone, I am just in the beginning stages of the app build (IOS). Currently the plugin I am working with is the location map. I have each pin defined and selected per site on the map, but when I test the location by selecting show on a map "google maps" cannot find that location. I would like to make sure before I go any further if this should be a problem once I finish the app. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,

Hi @tazmanian19, Welcome to buzztouch! So, you have points on the map defined in the buzztouch control panel, correct? And what action do you have assigned to a tap of the pin...provide driving directions? Are you running this in the simulator or an actual device? Mark

Fred thank you for your reply I will consult that article once I get home this evening. GoNorthWest thanks for your response also, I have the points defined by address. Which then automatically renders the lat & lon of the address, but when I click show on a map to verify the location google maps can not find that destination. I have also tried to define the lat & lon and re-enter to no avail. All of this is still within the buzztouch control panel. I just wanted to make sure of this before resuming the build, there also no action attached to the pins as of yet. Thanks,

So, it's within the buzztouch control panel that it's complaining that it can't find the location, or when you build the app and run it in the simulator? Here's another tool that you can use to try and validate you have the correct location. http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html If it's failing in the control panel, but not in the simulator, then it's probably a bug in buzztouch that needs to be investigated. If it's an issue on the simulator, then you should have some info in the Console that shows what the error is. Can you give us an example of an address? Mark

GoNorthWest, Thanks for your reply, everything is still within the buzztouch control panel. I have verified the lat & lon locations through serveral sites. I don't believe it is within buzztouch, because the control panel has an linked box to google, so when you click show me on a map it then opens a new site/tab which is google maps to verify the location. Thanks,

OK, I totally see what you're doing now. This is for BT v2.0, and I was just able to try it out in my control panel, and it works just fine. Can you give me an example of an address you are trying to map? Or at least an example of what that is failing? You could also just bypass this (since your users won't be using the control panel) and test it out in the Simulator or on a device. That's where it really counts. Mark

Worked fine for me! I ended up at this Google Map link: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.8509616,+-82.8242579+%28Some+Place%29 In my control panel, I put "Some Place" in the Title, and then the address, all on one line, in Sub-Title. I then hit "Find the latitude / longitude of this," which is did, then Saved. Finally, hit "show on map," and it took me to the link above. Pretty much what you did? Mark

Cool. As I understand it, the first line is supposed to be the text that will show when you tap the pin, and the second line is the address you want. Hope it works out, but let me know if it doesn't! Mark

I have the suggestions, but every time when I click show map in control panel it plots a location completely different, or doesn't recognize the location at all. Any Suggestions. Thanks,

Try using this link to find the lat/long of your address, and then paste those values into the map point instead of the ones generated when you put in the address on the second line. This might be more accurate. http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html Mark

Mark, Thanks for your reply, but it is still not working. This is what I get when I click the show on a map through the control panel. We could not understand the location 37.5667655, -82.6423776 (Cardinal Suggestions: Make sure all street and city names are spelled correctly. Make sure your address includes a city and state. Try entering a zip code. Know about this place and want everyone to find it? Any ideas?

The Show on Map link simply opens Google Maps with some location parameters included in the URL. a) Click the show on map link. b) Copy the URL in your browsers address bar (after Google Maps opens) c) Paste the URL here I'll look into what may be going on?

Ah, good nudge, lost track of this! Oops. So, I've done some digging around and fixed this in the control panel. Here's the explanation (if you're interested). The link you posted DID NOT work, like you realize. The link you posted, less the (Cardinal #1) at the end DID. In other words this does not work in Google Maps: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.563423,+-82.644836+(Cardinal #1) and this does: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.563423,+-82.644836 and so does this: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.563423,+-82.644836+(Cardinal+1) Some details: The URL's to Google Maps used when clicking the Show On Map link are constructed with three parts appended to the end of the URL after the equals (=) sign Latitude Longitude Description The issue in this case is the description. Your control panel includes a description of (Cardinal # 1) and it's this description that was confusing Google Maps. I only discovered this because it worked after removing the pound (#) sign from the URL. The routine we use to construct the URL was NOT properly encoding the description text in a way that is "URL Safe." This was the fix. If you click the same link in your control panel now, you'll see it loads the same URL with a few character changes to account for the pound (#) sign. Great find and thanks for the patience while I looked into this ;-)
