Feasibility Of Rebuilding My Location Based App In Buzztouch

I would like to rebuild my - "1st Friday Mobile" http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/1st-friday-mobile-networking/id424159235?mt=8 - iPhone app in with Buzztouch, is this practical? The app categorizes places near you by culture or interest and was built on the Socialight.com platform which is no longer being updated.

Basically anything is possible with Buzztouch. Perhaps if you list the features in your app you'll get a more specific response. From the little I could grasp from the site you should be able to. Fred

Thanks Fred, The home screen of the app has a menu list of predefined queries i.e. directories of geolocated places. When the user clicks on a menu item the next screen shop a list of tips(notes) about the places in distance order. The user can click on a tip and the place/tip info will be displayed along with a map. The app has the following features: 1. The App allows the user to post and view tips about their favorite places. 2. The App allows the user to add a place based on the user location and tips about the place.* Optionally the tip can be posted to Facebook. 3. A tip consist of an optional picture and a note about the place 4. Users can follow each other and directories of places 5. Users get push notifications on activities of users and directories that they follow. An example use case: A user can click on a directory of places let’s say the local chamber of commerce. On the next screen the list of chamber members will be displayed in distance order. The user can also click a map button and have the places displayed on a map. *When a place/tip is added the user needs be able to assign it to multiple directories. In the current app this feature is not available from the phone. Socialight is no longer providing updates to the platform.

@1stFriday Like @Fred mentions, it's not a matter of "can" it's a matter of "how" The features you list can either be considered very complicated or very simple, it depends on your level of skill, interest, and understanding of how phones connect to backend data sources (like where the heck do the tips get stored so other users of the app can see the newly posted tips). For sure you're describing an app that requires a backend system capable of storing all this information. And, when the phone asks for it to display it, the backend system will need to provide it. You may or may not be capable of assembling these types of screens and connecting them to you backend systems. Only you will know if you're capable of doing this. Asking "can buzztouch do this" is sort of like asking "can photoshop do this" - the answer will always be yes but the amount of work involved to accomplish it will always range from very easy to very complex. I would consider your list of features "average" on the complex scale (I'm a developer so I think it's about an average project). The best thing to do will be to decide how much learning, coding, experimenting you're interested in doing. If it's not much, jump online and find somebody you can hire to help so you don't have to tinker with things you're not interested in ;-)

Thanks David. I really appreciate your answer. I am willing to pay someone to create a Buzztouch Plugin that interacts with a MongoDB Places database. The senario is as follows: The places data is tagged. The tags are stored in a table. The places data is index and sorted by distance from the mobile phone. The tags are menu items in the app. When the user clicks on a menu item/tag the places data is displayed in a list format and or as pins on a map. The places database also contains notes about the places and the users who create the notes. There is more but that is the senario. By the way where is the API documentation for creating Plugins?
