Which size to choose?

Hello everybody. I wonder how best to use the images in applications. I read that right is to work with dimensions of 320x480 pixels or double (640x960 px). But what is the advantage of using a larger size if the smallest app allows a faster download? would be the quality? prevention for larger screens? Thank you.

Graphics is a tough issue. For a good article on different screen sizes (Android) go to www.MySkylla.com and enter screen size in the search box.

fwiw I use 640x960. The small increase in file size doesn't really have an adverse effect on overall app size/download speed, while also avoiding pixilation on tablets.

I tested 640x960 px and not fit to the entire screen of my galaxy y. The size correct was 720x960 px. Could I use it in general? I intend to create a menu and pages in HTML and use it a unique HTML_DOC. If I´ll create a page in html (without using background image option of screen plugin HTML DOC)I need to define two sizes (small device/large device)in the HTML code or it´s not necessary? Thanks.
