Possible newbie dumb question

Hi there So I am working my way through my first app and what I am trying to do is nice and simple: Text 1 (ideally with image)-> text 1 -> plays sound file 1 Text 1 (ideally with image) -> text 1.2 -> plays sound file 1.2 Text 2 (ideally with image) -> text 2 -> plays sound file 2 so pretty simple. I have been able to get Text 1 (no image) -> text 1 - but not understanding how to add sound file Text 1 (no image) -> but not able to add text 1.2 etc... suggestion?

Hi @trafalgargirl, Welcome to buzztouch! It's a bit hard to figure out what exactly you're doing here. Are these "Text 1" and so forth menu list items? And they are linking to another screen or something? Can you give us a few more details on the screen types you are trying to use? That'll help us help you move forward. Mark

Hi Mark! Thanks - I am so excited I found you guys! I started by adding a simple menu (called it movie) and then adding HTML or Plain Text Content which would ideally also contain a sound file and pic of the poster. So ideally - I want to have App Icon Splash Page (with app title and bigger version of the app icon) Movie title (with a thumbnail of the poster) Sound clip and movie line Hope that makes sense Mark? thanks S.

Yep, that's all totally doable! You might consider using a button layout for your menu, as you could then use a nice movie poster image as the button. Then when the user taps on it, it could take them to an HTML page that has info about the movie in it, and loads the clip? Or, has a link to the trailer/sound file? Mark

Hi Mark Cool - except now when I try to make changes to my app - I get the message that says - There was a problem parsing some configuration data - please make sure it is well-formed. Should I delete and start over from scratch? Is there a way to do that? I think the button layout is a much better way to go :)

You shouldn't have to delete and start from scratch. But if you really want to, just delete all the screens you've create thus far, and create new ones. Are you getting this error on the simulator? Mark

Yes the error is on the simulator. I tried to download and run it again - but same result. I will delete the screens and start again maybe? Should I just use the home screen as the first screen? So the second screen I will make will then be a button screen?

I would make the button screen the home screen. I have an app that is like that. I'd hold off on the Splash Screen for a bit...those tend to cause problems. The problem could be your configuration file is out of sync. I'd hit the "Show Apps Configuration Data" link in your control panel, copy and then paste into your BT_Config.txt file located in BT_Config folder of your download. Then do a Product...Clean in Xcode, and run it again. Mark

Ok I have now deleted all of the files except the original Home screen menu - so I should start by adding a button screen? Sorry if i am not following!

Yep! Create a button menu screen, and in the Layout section for your app, assign it as the home screen. Then add some buttons, and make sure they link to whatever other screen you want. Make sense? Mark

So I added the menu button - then under that is where I would add the title of the movie with the poster? And then hitting that would then take you to the line and sound file?

Pretty much. You could create a button image that is the poster, and assign that to the button. Then some text that names the movie. Tapping that would take you to, for example, an HTML screen, that has all the other stuff.

Sorry Mark - one other question - i assume this is a non-tabbed layout?

It can be either. If you create a tabbed layout, just make the button menu the "home screen" for whichever tab you want. Or, you can make this a single, home screen layout. Your choice! Mark

Ok - so you were right about the build being out of sync - did as you suggested and it worked :) So - I have the app icon showing on the screen, and then when I hit the icon I go to a screen with just one title - even though I have more than one tiltle and it's not showing up as a button? I wish there was a way for you to 'see' what I am talking about lol.

Now I seem to be getting a message that says change default.png in Xcode. I am usually not this clueless... :/

Yep, don't worry about that for now. That's actually what I'll suggest you use as your splash screen later. It's an image that is required by Apple. Just ignore it for now. Mark

Not a problem. Let's move this over to email, and I can assist you better. If you can send your BT_Config.txt file to MrkFleming at gmail dot com, I can take a look at how you have things configured. Mark
