confused on how to add revmob

I have veena trying fir a few days now to get revmob working. I have been looking at the how to make money with free apps thread but it now appears that most information in obsolete. Some posts state bcfads, someone told me its revmobads, video states revmobdevs, some state add class others state 2 line of code only, revmob site states 1 line which is nothing like what is on thread? Its baffling. Would someone be kind enough to post what the correct code is at this time to get android full screens running and exactly where the code goes as im just getting nowhere with other thread. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Old sdk used the bcfads tag but the new sdk uses the RevMobAds tag, so dont get confused. Download the latest version 3.2.6 sdk and add the following code in your app to get a fullscreen running. 1. Register your app on revmob website. 2. Changes to be made in manifest.xml (Actually all the following permissions are already there in bt apps but make sure they are there just in case) <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE"/> 3. Create a libs folder in your project and place the new version sdk in it. Dont forget to configure build path and also to tick the revmob sdk in order and export section. 4. Changes to be made in BT_activity_base.java file: 4.1 import the following: import android.app.Activity; import com.revmob.RevMobAds; 4.2 Put the following line private static String APPLICATION_ID = "Your_App_ID"; just below this line (line number 95) which runs as follows: //visible / showing public static final int INVISIBLE = 4; public static final int VISIBLE = 0; This should look like this after the code is put: //visible / showing public static final int INVISIBLE = 4; public static final int VISIBLE = 0; private static String APPLICATION_ID = "Your_App_ID"; Remember to replace your app id in place of Your_App_ID. 4.3 Now put the following line after line number 103: RevMobAds.showPopup(this, APPLICATION_ID); It should look like this after you put the code below line 103: //onCreate @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); RevMobAds.showPopup(this, APPLICATION_ID); This is it. Its not that difficult. --------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Dated Aug 09 2012 --------------------------------------------------------------- The revmob sdk has made many changes since i posted the above info. I have included a pdf tutorial of the new version and the codes in. I will try to keep this file updated if and when necessary so that you will all get the updated codes. Also dont forget to visit the new forum thread. Put the line given below in place of RevMobAds.showPopup(this, APPLICATION_ID); in the oncreate method:------> RevMobAds.showFullscreenAd(this, APPLICATION_ID);

Sandeep- Thanks for this revised RevMob tutorial. Was not looking forward to going thru that 300 post thread to get this working. I'm trying to apply this to a 2.0 Self Hosted Android app. Is that what these steps are for? They seem to fit properly, but my app is crashing on launch.....

Got it working - FULL SCREEN ads too. Sandeep your instructions are excellent and a relief from the other thread (at least for Androind here). There is still some other key stuff in that thread, esp this: ------------------------------------------- I heard some issues about fullscreen and popup being showed many times in android platform. So, for those who have this problem, a workaround can be resolve: 1. before onCreate() method in BT_base_activity.java put this: private static int session = 0; 2. replace the RevMobDevs.showFullscreenAd(this, "Your App Id") for this: if(session % 5 == 0) { RevMobDevs.showFullscreenAd(this, "Your App Id"); } session++; This code does two things: it shows fullscreen ad on app startup and after 5 screen changes. You can adjust this parameter as you wish, replacing the "5" for any other number. ------------------------------ I tried adding that code above but it made the whole app a bit wonky and killed my background image for the simple menu. Would love to control that, but not sure if that code is correct without more research....

@ATRAIN53- These steps work perfectly for both bt1.5 and 2.0. I have put this code in all my apps mostly in the BT_activity_root_tabs.java file. because my apps are mostly having a tabbed layout as homescreen. This triggers the fullscreen ad only once at the start of the app. The code looks as follows starting from the line 35ish... package com.preventionofcurroptionact; import com.revmob.RevMobAds; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.app.ProgressDialog; import android.app.TabActivity; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.content.Intent; import android.content.res.Resources; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.os.Bundle; import android.os.Handler; import android.view.Window; import android.widget.LinearLayout; import android.widget.TabHost; import android.widget.TabWidget; import android.widget.Toast; import android.widget.TabHost.OnTabChangeListener; @SuppressWarnings("deprecation") public class BT_activity_root_tabs extends TabActivity implements OnTabChangeListener{ //member variables private String activityName = "BT_activity_root"; private Handler buildInterfaceHandler = null; private TabActivity thisActivityObject = this; private AlertDialog myAlert = null; public ProgressDialog progressBox = null; public BT_progressSpinner progressSpinner = null; private TabHost tabHost = null; private TabWidget tabWidget = null; private String configData = null; private boolean didCreate = false; // leadbolt private AdController lbController; // Just replace the ID below with your appID. private static String APPLICATION_ID = "MY_APP_ID"; ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //activity life-cycle events. //onCreate @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); BT_debugger.showIt(activityName + ":onCreate"); RevMobAds.showFullscreenAd(this, "APPLICATION_ID"); @MrStuck- Well you should not have any issue in either case. Actually you can implementing this code either in BT_activity_base.java, BT_activity_root.java, BT_screen_htmlDoc.java, BT_screen_menuButtons.java or BT_screen_menuListSimple.java. You can practically use this code in any other screens as well like the quiz plugin screen. Just try playing around with this code.

@@ATRAIN53- thats other trick which should be used to trigger the fullscreen ad after few screen change, say like after every 5 screen changes. Since your app has a simple menu list screen i would advice you to add the code (the one i have put above in my first post) in the BT_screen_menuListSimple.java. This will trigger the ad each time the user comes on menu list screen. If you want the fullscreen ad to appear only once at the startup of the app try putting it in the BT_activity_root.java file. Just play around with the code till you get the desired results.

@ATRAIN53 did you have to change anything to stop it crashing?. @Sandeep I will try again as maybe i never done something correctly. Once again thanks for the guide, my brain just locked up with all the info on the other thread. Perhaps a good idea if someone like yourself were to create a dropbox hosted guide and keep it updated with the latest code for the latest sdk to avoid confusion then the other post could be used for any problems only? Just a suggestion as i am more than willing to try stuff out before asking for help in forum but this cost me a couple of days trying which could easily have been saved if i had your excellent guide to follow at the beginning.

@MrStuck- Actually, RevMob has a very neat online documentation on both Android and iOS. They keep changelog updated all the time there is any change in the code while releasing new sdk. You can find all the info in the following links: Android: http://sdk.revmob.com/android iOS: http://sdk.revmob.com/ios

No changes, just did a full clean/build and double checked the code. I'm working with BT 2.0 Self Hosted code on a MAC. Home screen is a Simple Menu. Sandeep - Thanks for the tips/explanation on how you can add this to the different screens. That helps me understand hacking up the BT Android a TON in realtion to the view controllers. Have been studying too much iOS.... Being able to add it and control/trigger the ads after a number of clicks is what i'm thinking next. If my home page is a Simple Menu and I don't want the ad to appear on launch- If i just add this code to say a Button Menu screen - then it would trigger there the first time, correct? This way you are only serving up adds to people that really use the app vs the causual user. I'd like to talk to the revmob guys about local advertising. Using this for business type apps to serve up promo ads AFTER users are inside the app and clicking around a bit seems like a great use of this.

@atrain53- yes thats correct but this will also trigger the ads to show up each and every time the users comes on the button menu screen. instead put that code in the activity_root.java file, this triggers the ad only once on the launch of that app. actually your idea of advertising locally is nice but it has its pros and cons. earlier i used to use leadbolt which is ad service mainly based on local targeting for ads and since most of my users are from my country India, i was not able to monetize from the ads as the ads never showed up in my apps for want of local ads. revmob on the other hand has system of paying the developers on the basis of the installs of games and most users irrelevant of their categories like to play games some time. this generates handsome income for the developers.

I think I am going to use the popup instead of the full screen, and see how that works. For some reason, this new SDK is causing screens to crash or go black when I use the full screen ad. I'll see what happens with popup and report back. Got the popup installed, SO EASY!! I will give it a week or so and see how it goes, then maybe look at changing. THANK YOU SO MUCH REVMOB!!!! One other question - has the XCode process changed as well, or is it the same too?

Hi, I'd like to try Revmob. I'm using BT 2.0 on my own server. I do not understand this: 4.1 import the following: import android.app.Activity; import com.revmob.RevMobAds; Exactly, what do I do to achieve 4.1? I pasted it into the list under "import java.io.File;" was that right? Also, I've tried integrating the ads but I got a lot of errors. What are causing the ones below, please? Multiple markers at this line - The method showPopup1(BT_activity_base, String) in the type RevMobAds is not applicable for the arguments (BT_activity_base, String) - The method showPopup(BT_activity_base, String) is undefined for the type RevMobAds - Line breakpoint:BT_activity_base [line: 106] - onCreate(Bundle) Your help is appreciated. John

just copy and paste the import code at the top of the page you are adding ads to. in the above case its added to activity_base_java at the top where all the other imports are just paste it there and follow rest of guide. you may get errors until you have added all the code. hope this helps

@John Imports should be placed right below the package line. For eg:- package com.Your_Package_Name;

Thank you, Mr Stuck. No more errors in eclipse! Thanks, Sandeep - tried it and it makes sense. Been over the steps and rebuilt the app from scratch a couple of times. Eclipse says it is starting the app successfully but my AVD emulator gives me the error "The application ...... has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." when I try to start the app. Tried uninstalling etc from AVD but no change. I'm adding the code exactly as in Sandeep's first post. I'm putting it in the BT_activity_base.java file. Tried putting it in the BT_screen_menuListSimple file but it did not make sense to me from step 4.2. I've created a very simple app with only a simple menu linking to text. I'm using BT 2 on my own server. Help would be most appreciated.

Hello friends, I have prepared a pdf tutorial as suggested by @Mr stuck. I am extremely sorry that i could not come up with this tutorial earlier. You all can find Revmob tutorial for latest version 3.4.3 - which was released on 2012/08/03 in the following link as well as in the forum below linked. Note that the steps i have mentioned in my first post on this thread is outdated. Hope this proves useful to all of you guys. @Mr stuck- As far as i have seen the Revmob sdk changes frequently 2-3 times a week and the code changes to with every third of their new sdk. However the newer version has stayed there unchanged for a long time now since they have done a lot of bug fixes. Lets see if they make any further changes. In that case i will update this tut.

It's excellent and there is a definate need for Android expertise @ here. Glad the Google Play approval process is a lot shorter than Apple if this SDK is changing so often. Don't want to miss any new good features or bug fixes! Thanks again for the help!

I have written out a step by step for integrating a revmob nag screen into android 2.0 based on Sandeep's session with me. Hope you find it useful :) http://thechocolatelabapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/How-to-integrate-revmob-by-Elaine.pdf THANK YOU SANDEEP!!

Hi. I used Revmob in a recent app and set it up in eclipse using the same method i did in previous app but no ads are showing. The screen goes dark as though its about to show an ad but it just clears and goes back to app. Any suggestion

I've followed Elaine's tutorial for the most recent version of sdk. Has the coding changed since then?

Here is the code for a working full ad every 5 screens on RevMob 6.0 with BT 2.0: BT_activity_base.java file: //visible / showing public static final int INVISIBLE = 4; public static final int VISIBLE = 0; private static String APPLICATION_ID = "XXXX_YOUR_APP_ID_XXX"; private RevMob revmob; private static int session = 0; //onCreate @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // Starting RevMob session if(session % 5 == 0) { revmob = RevMob.start(this, APPLICATION_ID); revmob.showFullscreen(this); } session++;

@Sandeep, any updates about the revmob banner ads tuto? I've been trying to adapt the code that is below from @ricardo to Revmob 6.0 but I couldn't make it work, I had a problem in this line "Banner banner = new Banner("Your app id", this); " 1. import the revmob-3.0.3.jar (you have already done this when using fullscreen ad, you don't have to do this again) 2. in the file act_base.xml file, i replaced these lines <!-- baseView is filled dynamically by each Activity .java class --> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/baseView" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> </LinearLayout> for these <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/revmobWrapper" android:padding="0dip" android:layout_margin="0dip" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <!-- baseView is filled dynamically by each Activity .java class --> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/baseView" android:layout_above="@+id/revmob_banner" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/revmob_banner" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:orientation="vertical"> </LinearLayout> </RelativeLayout> 3. In BT_activity_base.java, added this lines: Banner banner = new Banner("Your app id", this); LinearLayout bannerView = (LinearLayout)this.findViewById(R.id.revmob_banner); bannerView.addView(banner);

Hi AlmaR, I have not been using revmob for many months now and instead i use admob and startapp. Recently i started to use airpush which too is a good service and it pays you more than any other ad service. Revmob and android is a bad combination but for ios its really good. I stopped using revmob because the download rate is too low and the pay per download (also the user need to run the downloaded game right after he downloads so that you get paid). If you are looking for one time revenue then startapp is good. It pays devs when users download their app. In short someone downloads your app you get paid for it. If you want your users not get annoyed with icons and pushes, then admob is the best. But if you want appwall, pushes and icon ads then airpush is the best for you. I have tutorials for all those ad networks that i have mentioned. You can find them in following links- Airpush- https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=E0575C8397CC35743BD1573&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=airpush&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory= Admob- http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=43A315FFC67787BDD76AAE4&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=admob&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory= Startapp- https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=AF976A17FF7F078FA39E2EC&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=startapp&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory=

Thanks for your reply @sandeep! I am trying to have my iOS and Android app under the same ad network so I guess Airpush and Startapp will have to wait. Currently I have Admob in my iOS app. I am about to launch the Android version and as I am not making good money with Admob I want it to try Revmob and check how the fullscreen ad + banner ad perform. If I can make it works and it performs well I will migrate my iOS app to Revmob. Thanks again for your help.
