Emulator - How should it look after launch?

Hello, I've fully setup the Eclipse IDE environment using GoNorthWest's "Buzztouch for Android A User’s Guide - June 2012": http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf Thank you GoNorthWest. The software versions: - eclipse-SDK-4.2-win32.zip - installer_r20.0.1-windows.exe - jdk-7u5-windows-i586.exe I'm running Win XP Service Pack 3, and the full installation process went smoothly. I then setup an emulator: - Buzztouch-2.0 - Google APIs (Google Inc.) - API Level 8 - Size: 10 MiB - Built-in: WVGA800 After launching the emulator, the only thing that is displayed in the middle of the left-hand side of the emulator window is an animated graphic which spells out "Android". This is in contrast to the image shown in the guide which shows a complete interface with background image, time, date, lock and speaker icon. Can this difference be explained by the newer versions of the three software packages listed above? Thanks in advance for your help. - Vaddi

That ANDROID is part of the startup process. It takes a few mins to load at times. Give it five mins to fully load. you should then see the slide bar to access the main screen just like on a normal phone. Also check the console for any error messages in Eclipse.

The emulator will look like a smartphone. The verify your installation go to www.MySkylla.com and read The Buzztouch Process. Fred

Hi @Vaddi, Welcome to buzztouch! Glad that the doc helped out a bit! @gbakakos is right on...sometimes it takes forever for the Emulator to start up. Seems to be related to amount of memory and processor power you have. When I was running XP, it took FOR EVER! You can watch the Console pane in Eclipse to see the status of things. If it fails to launch, it'll get noted there. Otherwise, you've just gotta wait it out. Mark

Essential to watch that console pane! For me, probably 3 times out of 5 the emulator will fail to load. Used to send me mad when I was starting out waiting for that logo to disappear, not realizing the d*mn thing had crashed! I find that the emulator opens more consistantly if instead of hitting the emulator button, hit the arrow next to it and choose 'run from configuration'. Seems to work better for me (WinXP pro sp3).

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome, helpful observations and advice. Seems like an awesome forum. @GoNorthWest - Without your well-written document it would have been extremely challenging to take on the installation process. Thanks again. I ran the emulator for the entire day (24th July) to see what would happen and ended up with the same result. I've added a link to the screenshot: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93806108/avd_screenshot.png Thanks

Well, that doesn't look very promising! 24 hours and it still hasn't started...bummer! Is there anything in the Console pane of Eclipse? That's where Emulator errors tend to get logged. If you would like, I could TeamViewer into your system and make sure everything is set up OK. Could be something simple. It should not have anything to do with newer versions of the packages, because mine are all current versions (I keep them updated). Let me know if you'd like me to poke around. You can contact me at MrkFleming at gmail dot com Mark
