Downloading client apps?

Hi all New to bt, have made some apps and got them working in eclipse, so still learning I will be making apps for local business and want to clarify how the clients and customers can download them Appreciate your help with this As apple will likely not approve them, or at least fast enough, how do they download them. Understand I need a developer account. For android it seems all I need is a developer account and just upload them ( no approval there is that right) Thanks Rod

Hi @Rod, Welcome to buzztouch! For Android, all you need to do is create the apk file (the compiled app), and send it to them via email or post on a website. You don't even need to use a store like Google Play. Once they click on the apk file using their device, they will be prompted to install. Apple is a different beast. If you want to distribute them to the masses, and you don't want to require your users have jailbroken phones (and I would HIGHLY recommend against that, despite the arguments of @Fred), you need to get them approved by Apple and added to iTunes. That's just the way you have to play in the iOS space. Make sure you take some time to investigate all the tutorials and such at buzztouch.com/resources. There is lots of good stuff there to get you going. Mark

thanks still going thru everything there this is a problem(you need to get them approved by Apple and added to iTunes.) as apple is reluctant to approve local business apps with a apple developer account I can download to my phone to test it? so i assumed it could be done without approval

Yes, you can create a version of your app with a development certificate, and even distribute that to multiple people for testing purposes. But, the certificate will eventually expire, and you're limited to something like 100 ad hoc distributions like that. So, it's not a legitimate method of app distribution. Have you thought about doing a Web App for local businesses? That doesn't require any Apple approval at all, and all it needs is a connection to the Internet (which, presumably, your app will require anyway). Just Google "web app development" or something like that and you should have tons of resources. Mark
