Source code to Android

Ok, so we built an app with BT 2.0 for the IOS which is now submitted to Apple and running very nice. We also would like to submit to android so we have gone through the process of using the source code in eclipse. We have found that our image files need name changes to meet eclipse standards but further more we are receiving major errors dealing with Geopoints, Map Activity, Map Controllers, etc. Looks to be all Java problems so not sure what could be missing or if it has to do with us using dropbox as our workspace. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I would suggest building a seperate app for Android. I'm finding so many features that don't work on Android that do on iOS. The idea of a universal APP to run on both platforms feeding from the same CP is a great idea- But I've had to re-design and re-think the iOS app i created to make an Android version of it. The menus and features in the Android version are quite different because I can't use the same ones. I'm revising my feature-set for customers when they want app now for both platforms. Almost everything plug-in wise with BT works well in iOS. (sometimes with some basic mods) But some basic features like HTML docs, Maps and esp the Menu Lists are very buggy in Android 2.0 BT Self Hosted. Developing on both platforms has been a good learning lesson understanding why iOS is so popular and why lots of companies only have iOS apps! I think I may look to develop for Android more outside of BT once I get a few projects done to get a better grasp of it.

The biggest problem with BTv1.5 was that only 5 of the content screens worked and users expected all the screens to work. BTv2.0 doesn't yet have that great divide. The second biggest problem was in the use of images cross platform. With BTv2.0 self-hosting I see the biggest issue being the availability of the menu plugins at BuzztouchMods leading to different apps since those don't work in Android.

Hi Thanks a lot Atrain and Fred for your input. Fred What do you mean "leading to different apps" You mean the plugin for menu's in BT is not working working in Android? Do you have suggestions what to avoid and what is best practice. We are on BT 2.0 self. Using Eclipse latest version and just purchased a Android phone today just for testing. The emulator was very bad to test but the testing works great on the phone.

On BuzztouchMods.com you'll find the Menu List Advance with icons. It's not available for Android. If you use this plugin then your Config file will not work in Android, unless you modify the Config file. So if you want a universal Buzztouch app, then you can't use that plugin. But given that it allows icons its a hard choice to make. I don't see much you should avoid. Be aware that PDF and other types of docs don't work without an app to support the feature. Fred

You hit it on the nail. We are up a creek with all the PDF files. Surely we thought that google would have thought about that. So making the app. with PDF files is not a good way to go? If a user downloads it, they will need a third party app to view all the pdf documents? Question: Do you suggest we change all the documents to HTML? Whats the best way to handle PDF documents? for Android I am asking. Thanks again for all your comments. I see you everywhere helping everyone. You and Mark "GoNorthWest" Cheers

It all depends on your objective and market. If your uses will normally have a PDF app no problem. I prefer html for many reasons, but there may be reasons not to convert. Posting PDF's online and connecting by Custom URL might be a solution. Google docs is also an option. Fred
