Adding Images to Ebook Plug-in

Hi, I'm using the Ebook Plug-in on my own server and BT 2.0 I can add text to the ebook but I only get a blank space where an image should appear. I've had a good play around and a good search of the forum but I am unable to find a solution. I've uploaded the image, named myimage.jpg, to the app's images folder under the Files/ Media tab. The code I've placed in my ebook is: <br> <img style="width: 600px; height: 428px;" alt="" src="myimage.jpg"><br> I've checked that I am adding the code only I've clicked the Source button on the Ebook screen. I'd be grateful for ideas on how to resolve this, please. John

Hi John, Are you having the same problem with the customHTML/text plugin too? The ebook plugin is based off the customHTML plugin and uses the same code, so it'll inherit any issues that plugin may have.

Hi Raveyd, Great to hear from you. I just tried the customHTML plugin and it's exactly the same. I've alos just tried adding the url of where the image is is stored in the images folder as the src reference, and the image loads. Weird!

ok, at least we know it's a common problem now. There are a lot of posts regarding the customHTML issue, but I don't know if anyone has solved it. There is a workaround that seems to work for the customHTML plugin, so it will work for the ebook plugin. In the ebook plugin folder is a template.html file. What you can do is get that file onto your desktop and use an html editor - dreamweaver, notepad, whatever - and add your content to that file. (add whatever you like as long as it's between the 'ebook' divs) and use the html doc plugin to get it into your project. It's not an ideal workaround, but it'll work. fwiw, some people, me included, have no problems adding images to customHTML or ebook plugin, so it could be some server issues. Again, there are a lot of posts regarding fixes for the html editor (ckeditor) that the plugins use. Hope that helps a bit!

Sorry John, the div is called 'book', not 'ebook'. You can download a copy of the template.html file here, I've commented where content should be added. Depending on which editor you use, the place to add content might be waaaaay down the page. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/56760890/template.rar

Thanks, Raveyd. I'll play around with that. Thought - have I been deleting the 'ebook' divs when I've been editing the ebook screen? i think I may have been by using Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut. John PS Just experienced a huge downpour here in Sutton Coldfield - some summer, eh, Raveyd.

Ah, you're just across the way from me then John. Dunno which way the wind's blowing, but we've just had a storm here. Maybe you had it first - or you've got another on the way! You might have deleted the divs, in some circumstances the html editor is pretty unstable. Let me know how you get on - if the storms don't cut the power!

Thanks Raveyd - I've downloaded the file and it is very clear. Let me know if you are ever in Sutton Coldfield and I'll buy you a coffee or beer depending on the time of day. John

@Higgy, finally got some feedback regarding my solution for adding pictures. I'm not sure why this works and just using a link doesn't but it works. I upload the image to wordpress, copy the resulting html code and paste it into the html file. Images appear in the ebook screen, no problem. Fred

@Fred, hi, what's the resulting code? As we're using a self hosted server can the same be done with images uploaded to the apps resources directory?

btw, I believe wordpress uses tinymce wysiwyg editor and it's usually rock solid. Perhaps it's a more efficient editor in some cms circumstances?

what's the resulting code? Not sure why it's different, it's just html. <img title="forum_icon.png" class="alignnone" alt="image" src="http://myskyllanotesmy.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/wpid-forum_icon.png" /> I think it has to do with where the image is hosted. **** As we're using a self hosted server can the same be done with images uploaded to the apps resources This is for html docs, since the image is hosted by wordpress.

I'm wondering what the relevence of using wordpress is? Like you say, it's just html. Haven't tried this, but why would it be any different keeping it self-contained on the bt server? For example: html doc: http://my_bt_server.com/files/applications/EA1B1A11E1CB11D0111A1A111/documents/content.html image: http://my_bt_server.com/files/applications/EA1B1A11E1CB11D0111A1A111/images/1.png

Just tried the wordpress URL in the gallery plugin an in a button and it works. It's very fuzzy, but that's due to the image size which can be adjusted. The biggest reasons I use wordpress to host the images are: that I have one blog post with all the images and it's easy to keep up with them. It's doesn't give me the issues other host locations give me. Both most importantly it just works. There's something strange about how the image is hosted that seems to work better. Fred

There's a couple of solutions shown above, now. I've find that if I get the image's url link from my server and use that in my html code then the image loads fine. Go to Files/Media Select the image to open it Copy the url You can either add the html code where you want or use an editor and change the image location src reference to this url Works for me in both the solution given above. @Higgey Read this thread with interest. I am looking at doing an eBook as well. What is advantage to having the eBook as an app vs a Kindle file, for example?

@Pespo, An advantage would be the additional functionality. For example you could integrate social sharing, like scringo, to get people discussing the book and sharing the app. Wallpapers, Google maps, any stuff you can think of really, to give added value to a simple ebook.
