2.0 Splash Screen for Android

Does the Splash Screen work in 2.0 for Android? My app keeps shutting down ("The application has stopped unexpectedly.") I am not sure the problem is related to the splash screen. The app was initially working until I added a splash screen with a -1 for timing. That was when the app initially stopped working. I have tried several things to repair it, including taking the splash screen out of the app, uninstalling the app, re-downloading the source code, and nothing seems to work. It all works fine in iOS. This is the last message in the console. [2012-07-18 12:29:58 - Test App] ActivityManager: Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] cmp=com.littlehopi/.BT_activity_root } I found this error in the LogCat. 07-19 12:29:27.688: W/ZZ(22324): BT_fileManager:deleteFile A98A5F7D969141677E077EA_screenData.txt does not exist Thank you for your help!

I can tell you that splash screens do work for Android using BT 2.0. I did not change the timing on mine, though, so that could have something to do with the problem. Mine works fine. I do get that the app has stopped working unexpectedly once in a while during initial launch but then it always relaunches fine.

That's good to know. At least I can rule out that as the problem. I am really glad they are working too!

I also have used the BTv2.0 Android Splash Screen and haven't noted any problems. I also have not adjusted the time settings. Fred

My next best theory is that when I deleted the file from Android to start again, that the file was not really fully deleted. It disappeared from my workspace, and I deleted it from my files, but it was still in Android and causing problems. This was just an app to play with to learn 2.0, so I am going to delete and start over. In fact, now we can delete from buzztouch (in self-hosted) so I am going to get it out of there too. Now I need to make a real app! Thank you, Fred and @Ag-Chieve!

I have just noticed the same symptoms on my Android app. My app has a splash screen, which I now plan to remove. At he moment, it crashes every time the phone wakes. Did you get to the bottom of this please Susan? Alan

For an alternative consider using a html screen with a redirect. Fred

Thanks Fred. I'll remove the splash, from my theme; I'll be happy if that works, it wasn't adding a lot of value anyway.

I've notice the problem noted above, but haven't studied it so I'm leaving the splash screen in for now. It can add visual value to am app. (Need all the help I can get.) Fred

Fred, if you think you need help, think how most of the rest of us here must feel! Well, I removed the splash screen, but the app still crashes. It happens every time my phone wakes. I recently added parse push and google api keys for the google map that refuses to work properly! Alan

Did you publish a new .apk with a new Config file? Fred

Pretty much. Here is the story - I got into a bit of a tussle with Eclipse and decided to restart my pc and start again. I downloaded my app again (it is a 1.5 Android app on buzztouch.com), re-applied the map api keys, added the parse sdk and code and all was good in the simulator. Throughout all of this, the config file was unchanged and up to date. I did an export with the release keystore and loaded onto my device. I then removed the splash screen, which is the only time the config file changed. Alan

Didn't realize you were BTv1.5. First, I strongly recommend you read my BTv1.5 article. If you had you would know the BTv1.5 splash screen doesn't work. You need to learn about updating the Config file. Also read The Buzztouch Process, it'll tell you how to create an Android app. www.MySkylla.com Fred

Hi Fred, I've covered all of these points the hard way, making my mistakes first - I removed the splash after reading this post. Thanks for the advice, I don't understand your logic though. Are you suggesting I have missed something? Alan

Find out which screens work in BTv1.5 in the guide, Find some important but easy fixes you'll need in the Buzztouch Process. Fred

Hi Fred, I read everything again, I followed your guide which confirmed I was doing everything correctly, which didn't hurt. Sharing your knowledge so comprehensively is pretty impressive. Sadly, none of this made any difference. Basically I am doing everything as described, I updated the config file, (I don't believe it was different), just to be sure. I also added the wheel of death solution (I didn't have that though), just for safety. As mentioned before, my app works fine until I add parse.com push notifications. The app displays ‘Sorry! The application LimePub (process com.limepub) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. It does this every time the phone is woken. I used the pdf parse guide posted by Teague Ridge and the app compiles and runs, maybe this is simply not compatible with 1.5? Alan

Problem solved - it was a call to something as part of the parse push implementation. I commented out one line and the app now behaves.

How did you delete the files completely? It seems this is what is happening with my app... i deleted some files but it is not reading and saving and complicating my app.

I really struggle with Eclipse. I can't remember exactly what I did with this post, but since then I know I have had a lot of other problems with Eclipse. The red X's are a nightmare. I just had to reinstall Eclipse! If you don't receive an answer on this, you may want to post a new topic. New topics get more attention.
