Not-really-BT-related device vs. simulator question

Hi. We have an interactive "pinscreen" app (kinda like a drawing app) for iOS at Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose. David Book has been *very* helpful integrating the non Buzztouch "game" parts with the Buzztouch platform, which helps us quickly update locations of "real" pinscreens on a map, update 'about us' info, etc. Of course the Buzztouch parts work perfectly now. Thus, my question is not about Buzztouch, but I hoped the community here might point me in the right direction. Our "pinscreen" part of the app works fine on iPads, iPhones, iPod touches, etc. It also works well on the iPad 5.1 simulator in xcode. When we put it on an iPad 2 device, however, we get an issue of the screen turning black, and the "canvas" shifting upwards about an inch every time we start to "draw." Is there somewhere I can look to find out the differences in the iPad 5.1 simulator and an actual iPad 2 running 5.1.1? Thanks for any pointers. We don't have a programmer on staff (I'm the closest and only know web-related stuff like Javascript). The programmer who wrote the original code has taken a job at Google, and is contractually obligated to stop working on iOS apps. Thanks, Rick
