EasyAPNS - server for you own push notification service

Hi there! Does anybody know anything about EasyAPNS? I stumbled upon their site and it looks very interesting. In short, from what I can understand, if you have your own domain and full MySQL privileges, you can create your own service to send push notifications to your users. I will dig more and come back if I find any proofs of it working. LE: It seems that there are some plugins available for Drupal and Wordpress that would work with EasyAPNS Drupal: http://drupal.org/project/1225224 Wordpress: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/easyapns/

Parse is free for the first million Push Notifications and includes a BEAUTIFUL web UI for the notification summiting. It has much more then just notifications. I can't understand the trade off....losing all that Parse gives you so you could save a few bucks? Maybe there is something I am missing. Thanks

@Isills81 - I think you're being a bit short-sighted in your response. I'd love to have control over my push notifications so if a provider goes out of business, gets acquired, or changes their pricing structure/business model, it doesn't affect me. A good analogy would be the desire to run BT 2.0 on your own server, instead of using the Free v1.5. I don't know if you were a BT member last year when (at times) server issues brought down the BT site or network problems slowed access of the site to a crawl. Not a very good position to be in when you love/depend on BT so much! :)

Parse is beautiful...far beyond the scope of anything a self-hosted version would look like. Based on the off chance that a large company like Parse MIGHT go under I would like to go ahead and limit myself to what my product can do and what it looks like...that is what you are saying. Might work great for you but I can't ask for all the money for a product if it is 2 bit and the UI looks displeasing. I don't consider myself short-sighted because I don't downgrade my products because of the off chance a company would go BK. The same could be said about Buzztouch....why build your apps with them if they could go belly up any second....you may be self hosted but you are still using their engine to compile your code...

Indeed.. If I had to choose between paying a third party for a service or paying for the opportunity to host my own service I would for sure go for the latter. EasyAPNS gives for free all the tools and install information to do this on your own so with a bit of database knowledge and some hard coding this extension in your app you can have all the Parse goodness on your own hosted server. If I learned something from all my past experiences, in any area you might choose, it is that the best person to depend on is your own. You can translate this to this service. It may not suit everybody, but may be of some help for some folks here that want the push notifications to be self hosted. All the best!

I would like to see this after you are finished....I too am in favor of controlling everything myself. Maybe screen shots of the UI. Thanks

Well, still far from understanding everything about MySQL, so I guess this would be a part of a future project. Just posted it to let this community know about it.

I looked at East APNS and am probably going to build one sooner than later. I've been hoping BT would get the PN feature on Self Hosted going, but seems that is taking some time. Seems to be a bunch of do it yourself Push Notification servers. still looking to see if i can find one that works for both iOS and Android......
