Let's petition Apple to delete old, useless apps from the App Store!!

Sign my petition here: http://www.change.org/petitions/apple-delete-old-useless-apps-from-the-app-store Hear me out on this. I'm not out for blood, but let's face it, there are tons of apps in the app store that are not properly maintained and just plain don't work, they need to be deleted by Apple.

How would they determine what those are? By user ratings? By subjecting every app to the app approval process again? Sure there's plenty of apps out there taking up space on the app store that shouldn't be. But I don't want to subject my apps to whatever process would be required to clean it up.

hmmm... many reasons for apps not being maintained. What if someone comes out of 12 months of intensive care, eager to update their apps, to find they're all deleted?

Would you feel the same if someone petitions for your apps to be removed?

I see where you're coming from completely, check out my reasoning on the petition though: "Just how there is such strict rules to get an app listed in the App Store, a similar review process should be applied to the least downloaded apps in any given period. That way thousands of apps that haven't been downloaded a lot or ones that have gotten multiple low or negative reviews will be eliminated from our searches and only great, useful and helpful apps will show up." It would be simple for Apple to run data telling them which apps have been downloaded less than 100 times but have been available for more than 2 years, those obviously aren't doing anyone any good, so get rid of them. If there is such a strict approval process on the front end, why not have spot checks every now and again to keep everyone honest and on top of their game?

Unfortunately, the apps I build for my clients would not work in this system. My clients are churches - with a maximum "market" for downloading the apps of maybe a few hundred

@dragon007 I'm not focusing on attacking or removing a particular app, I'm just bringing up the point that there should be a check and a process for removing applications that are taking up space and that no one is downloading.

@chris1 I see your point...hmm...I'm sure there is a way around that, like a "non-profit" exclusion or some type of category that would tell apple that your market is limited....because the same would be true for a business that creates an app just for their client base.... this is just a thought I had guys, you're bringing up valid points, so just don't sign the petition :-) I just got fed up last night flipping through all of these apps that have no ratings but have been out for years, just to get to a decently rated app....

How about a petition to have a better app store, where you can sort by rating, show in a list-view (like before), etc.?

hi dakorpsta007, I guess I understand your point, but really do you think that if an app has 5 downloads, it is useless? Can you imagine a person with a very rare diagnose, who made an app for those few people who suffer the same thing? Some of them did download, some maybe cannot... How can you tell? I am not saying that there is no reason behind your activity. Definitely, there may quite a lot of things rendered useless. But once they were born to that world, let them live there. Maybe some of the code will be obsoleted by new release of iOS in the future. Anyway even if that happens, their developers should be given a decent chance to update. Cheers! Frogman

If it weren't for useless apps, I'd have no chance at all of getting into the app store ;) Cheers! -- Smug
