Best devices to test using an emulator

There a tons of emulators for the devices out there and I don't feel like testing them all (and certainly not buying them all). What would you advise as the best 2 or 3 devices to test for (phone and tablet) to get the most compatibility testing for an Android app? Have no idea the scope of devices out there. Steve

Hey Steve, I recently read an article about a company that does Android app development, and how they LITERALLY test on just over 400 actual devices! So, the question is a bit difficult to answer, because there are so many danged devices out there! I think, assuming you're running a current version of the SDK, that you should test your device on the Nexus Tablet, and then one of the other smaller screens. That'll at least give you an indication of how things work. Mark

Mark, Thanks for the advice. I've never even seen an Android tablet yet. Are they primarily meant to be used in landscape since their emulators seem to default to that?

I use my Nexus 7 tablet in portrait mode most of the time.
