Depends on where you get it from but yes API is usually necessary.

For an HTML page, I don't think it's any longer required. https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/imageapis/ Mark

Yes still seems to be needed, they still list api keys for different views heres one: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/#api_key I needed a api key for self hosted map usage to work also, the map that shows device usage that is.

You would need a key to show the usage map. But I have a screen that takes the devices location and creates a map as part of a form that gets submitted. I don't need a key for that. And, I have a website where I show field locations for softball...one location per page...and I don't need a key there either. Mark

For HTML? No. It's like typing it into your web browser. For a WebView? No. For a MapView? Yes. For the new Google Map API for iOS? Again, Yes. Cheers! -- Smug
