Question on xcode download

I am going through the buzztouch U and it talked about downloading the compiled version and opening it in xcode (for iphones anyway). Do we *have* to do this?? I have a laptop with windows 7 - I don't have a Mac and really don't have any desire to get one.... but is it necessary to do things like add in plugins?

Hi @imtrying, The only way you can load Xcode legitimately is on a Mac. I am Windows based as well, but I found a decent Mac mini on Craigslist for about $200 that serves my needs perfectly. Bottom line, though, is if you wish to compile your iOS apps from buzztouch, you're going to need access to Xcode on a Mac, and ultimately membership in the Apple Developer Program at $99/yr. Check out this doc for more info: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf Mark

Yes....Xcode only works on a Apple. Without Xcode you won't have any way to compile your source code downloaded from Buzztouch. I have not heard of success running Xcode on a Hackintosh.

Ok thanks. :( I would have absolutely no other use for a mac except this... might look for used as suggested, thanks GoNorthWest. Or, maybe I'll see if I can find someone to outsource that stage to.

The cool thing about the Mac mini is that it's super small. I have it connected to my TV, and it sits tucked away out of view. I access it remotely using LogMeIn, and have all my buzztouch files on DropBox. I only use it for app making, mostly because the hard drive is so small that I can't install much else! You can also do Eclipse development on it as well. For $200, it was a pretty decent deal! Mark

Thanks guys - I totally appreciate the advice. I'm not a programmer but I do understand a lot, and so far I think I really want to keep going with this. (Got through "U 101"). lsills81 - I'll let you know if I need the compiling help. (Probably will when I get to that point, it may take me a bit to actually get a mac of some sort). Definitely won't be this week though, I'm out of the office as of this afternoon till Monday. (Rare! LOL)

AND.....Mac's run Windows so it isn't like you couldn't run Windows. You can run vitalization or boot into either OS. With VM Ware you can run Windows and OS X at the same time. Like @gonorthwest said.....it can be used for multiple reasons. Its hard to turn a blind eye to the MASSIVE market that iOS has. Like I said....happy to help out, if I can, with your Mac compile and archive needs.
