source files/package name

I have deleted crummy apps from my self hosted site. I was not satisfied with my work but had already placed the apps in my Google developers account and on google play. I have unpublished those apps. The question at last: having deleted the source files for these apps on my self hosted but kept the .apk on my local side can I retrieve the source files from my data base to recompile with the package name. I want to overwrite the .apk which are unpublished in my developers account. it appears that I must have the original package name i.e. {com.bodaciousmedia} and that can not be done as far as I can determine without the original build files. Does anyone know if this can be accomplished? Joe

You can probably revive the source files from your local PC. If not, you can recreate the app in the control panel. Just sign it with the same key and you will be able to replace the .apk on Google Play. I believe once you delete an app on the control panel it's gone. Fred

when trying to overwrite a an app in the past it always indicates to package name must be the same. without the source files it is impossible to know the package name. I will try using the same key with a new package name

The .apk is a zip file. Open it up. Fred

Not as simple as unzipping it, unfortunately. An apk is a compiled binary. Here is a tool that appears to be able to reverse engineer an apk: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/ Mark
