can anyone help fix location map

I have posted several times on same subject but no one seems to have any answer. I have a location map based app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.globalpiperhire please check it out and leave a review if you like. My problem is that i need the map to open default zoomed to the user location as its only useful to see points on map close to where you are and because i have pins from one side of the globe to the other the map now displays blank when first opened. Any help will be great. if not i will just have to leave it be. Also have another 2 apps in Google play so any reviews welcome thanks

Hello Mr. Stuck, I checked your app just now and am impressed with your Piper app. This concept is excellent and unique. So far as your problem with the map thing it can be only solved with making a list of all the locations separately. You have created all those locations on a single list, create each location separately, maybe continent wise or country wise would be great idea. Play around with this idea and see what can be achieved. You can check my app for better understanding about what i am saying. Here is the link to my app. http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordboxtwenty20worldcup2012

Hi and thanks for the heads up. I thought about creating multiple maps for different countries but that could become extensive eventualy. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for users. Buzztouch has the ability to set a default zoom level for a single location but this feature is prevented when more than 1 location is added to the map. I see no reason why the single location can't be changed the users location instead if a map pin location if you get me. Surely the code which defines the zoom level for a single map marker can be altered to users location rather than the map marker? And left set regardless of how many locations there are

Well, you might be right that the default map marker can be altered to the users location but that would mean to dig into the BT_screen_map.java file. Might be some of the hardcore developer can possibly do that.

I am hoping someone with good knowledge of coding can assist. I had a look in the map java screen but as im not a coder so can't pinpoint how i can achieve this. Im sure it will be a simple alteration for an experienced coder. I will download your new app and hit it with a review shortly. Thanks for your feedback and help and i just hope one of the Buzztouch pros can help resolve the map issue.

Yes, you are correct someone pro might find it easy fixing this issue. Mean while i will check myself what can be done in the maps java file. And thanks in advance for your review and i too added a review to your piper app earlier today. BTW my app is based on the Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup and considering you are Scottish i am pretty sure you will like my app.

Glad to see you are following Fred as could do with some of the big fish on here pitching in with any help possible to accomplish a resolution to this. Have you any ideas Fred? I don't know much about code but have read some java stuff so i can understand slightly the way it rolls. however i am in no position to even attempt writing or altering anything without help from a pro. From what i understand it would require re defining the single location to the users location and removing any code that nullifies the default zoom when more than one location is added to the map. I guess it would also require additional code added to deal with the absence of a user location when there is no gps or user has switched off gps. Wish i could code so i can resolve this but i can't. perhaps it can't be done! Or may be difficult to implement but im sure its a feature which could be applied to loads of apps. I believe it can be done but i just don't have the skills required to carry this out myself. Fingers are crossed that someone can help further.

Consider using Google Maps via URL I haven't played around very much with it but I believe you can accomplish same as with the plugin. I'm not sure what the limitations are, if any. Fred

I did consider url with Google maps but believe i may run into the same issue with users position although the map should remain visable. Thanks and will look into it as its not something i have much experience with either. may be better on an external Google map as it would eradicate the need for lots of Buzztouch screens for each person on the map. If that is the only way forward then i will use that approach. thanks

If you were pulling the points from a database instead of configuring them in the control panel, it would be much easier to show points at an X distance from the user. Check out this thread for more info and some code snippets: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=6A0E0F30B5413FF704B3A04 Mark

I checked out the thread and it seems like a good idea to only display results within a certain distance but i would like all users to ultimately have access to all points in world as services could ultimately be required by anyone anywhere in the world for various reasons. looks like an external Google map may be the way to go so i may look into it further
