App Size

Is it possible to determine how large your app is (would be if published) while you are still working on it?

Don't know of any formula but with Android you can publish as you build and take a look. Perhaps with iOS you could tell when you test on your device. Fred

Ah, maybe so. I know you can view app sizes in the settings of iOS. I haven't gotten a paid developer's account yet with Apple - still doing lots of learning and playing. But I think I'm close. That gave me another question: When you are testing an app in the iOS simulator, the icon stays there and you can run the app from inside the simulator as though it was a real device. I wonder if the app you are testing stays loaded on your device when you are testing live or does it get removed when you remove your device from SDK?

Howdy! You actually don't need the paid developer account to download Xcode and run your app on the simulator. But you will need to upgrade to run on an actual device. For a real device, the app you are testing stays loaded until you delete it. I have a basic test app always loaded on my iPhone, and use that to test new features. All I have to do is make changes to the control panel and BAM! they're there on my device! Mark

Build > Run in simulator. Find the files for the app that's installed on the sim. Most are in something like... /Users//Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications//Documents Looking at these files will tell you all sorts of good info. And, of course you can use the Achive feature of Xcode. See this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6411397/how-to-check-ios-app-size-before-upload
