I'm so making a mess of this!!

Hi All, After getting what I thought was relatively good scores in the quiz thus far I thought I would tackle my first app and completely folded! Is it best to just refer back to the video because as soon as I started on the app nothing made sense..? I have such an awesome idea too so it could be me just being too eager and not absorbing the crux of it..? Any suggestions for a hopeless newb? Mick

Hi @Mick, Welcome to buzztouch! My suggestion is to just keep practicing...even "failure" teaches you things that help in the future. If you're developing for Android, give this guide a look: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf There are tons of other resources in the buzztouch.com/resources section of the site, for both iOS and Android. Start small. In your control panel, create a new app. Add a single Custom HTML/Text screen, put in some text, and assign it as your Home screen in the Layout section of the control panel. Don't worry about splash screens or anything else at this time. Then download your source, run it through either Xcode or Eclipse, and let us know what happens! Once you are successful with that, the rest will fall into place! Send me an email at MrkFleming at gmail dot com if you need any further help! Mark

Welcome! I don't think many people see the benefit of building an old v1.4 app in the bt control panel, but it's soooo easy to build an app and get it working on a phone, to me it was a great confidence booster to actually get something up and running quickly and easily and able to play with it on my phone in less than a day. It definitely helped give me the confidence to try 1.5 then go 2.0 and self-hosted and give a basic awareness of what I was doing. Each to their own though...

I'm also new and am going through the growing pains. I have already been stuck (and I mean REALLY stuck) a few times - to the point where I wasn't sure I was capable. I've set it aside for a couple hours, came back to it, dug in again, and stayed stuck. Rinse and repeat. And rinse and repeat. But each time, I have finally figured out what I was doing wrong, and then Blam! The magic happens. All the things that I tried or read or played with while trying to break through suddenly became workable knowledge! Once I was able to figure out a problem, I was able to accomplish exponentially more things. And then I get stuck again. Rinse and repeat! In less than a week, though, I've learned a ton, and am feeling more confident each day. Mark and everyone has been very helpful on the forums. I've gotten the feeling no question is too small. Interesting you are a Droid but tried iOS. I'm a iUser and I steered clear of Eclipse so I could at least have some working knowledge of the device I'm using. Not that it helped a ton early on. :-)
