Featured in iTunes

Hey Guys, my app USA Trivia (iOS) has been out now for three months, and while I am getting a few downloads, I noticed today that my app is featured In Games> Trivia. What's Hot> See All - #108 in the US and in 86 other stores in Games> Trivia> Paid- around 165 (depends on store) Thought that was cool, but I have no idea how you get featured? I guess it has not turned into big download #'s but it is neat to be featured I guess. Until you get on the front page, or in the top 50 I am guessing I wouldn't see a big bump in downloads. Anyone else been featured in iTunes? Curious to see how it affected downloads. Jim

Wow! A huge congratulations from me! Wonderful job! I have never been featured in iTunes, but one day, I hope to see it comes true. I have one question, did apple contact you about being featured? Or did you check, and it appeared? I have heard featured apps get tons of downloads as they are hand picked by apple. Congratulations!

Being featured in the "What's hot" section is something that is automatically handled by Apple's mysterious rankings algorithm as far as I know congrats :) I was actually thinking yesterday "hmm I bet if I had some kind of patriotic app it would be getting a ton of downloads today"

Thanks, Apple did not contact me, and I am defiantly not seeing "Tons" of downloads yet. Maybe tomorrow, lol I am guessing that they must use some sort of formula for these as well? Maybe the search criteria from people on iTunes? Maybe the top ones they hand pick, but with only 7 reviews & less then 300 downloads, I highly doubt they picked mine.

@Crown Solutions: Super stoked to hear this and sending huge congrats. The difference between top 50 and top 100 is significant. Seems logical that folks would not scroll to second 50 as much to find it? Dunno, either way it's a major feather in your cap. Tip: Take a screen shot of this in the list for your portfolio. This will allow you to brag about it with perspective clients (don't gloat, funny). You can't imagine how meaningful it can be to would be clients (if you do dev work) to legitimately say "I have had an app in the top 50" - very few developers can say this. Well done.

Thanks, David, that is a great idea! I have just started working with clients to talk about building apps for them. Really appreciate what you have done here. The only coding I had ever done before finding Buzztouch was working with an Apple IIe when I was young. Now I want to find out more and more each day! As far as downloads, I only had 7 yesterday but I am hoping to get a spike over the holiday weekend here. But if I can consistently pull in $40-$50 per app a month, I will be very happy. Fingers crossed, my next app Baseball Trivia HD should go live in the next day or two. (if it gets approved the first round, I bet I just jinxed it...) Jim

Congratulations! :) My app was 29th in USA,and featured...still is featured in 32 countries for iPad(but sells dropped drastically-for example today only 4 copies). And my other quiz app is featured in 2 places(around 100th place). Best regards, Mario

Mario, congrats on that! That is very high, Hopefully you saw a few downloads because of it. I did some looking and apparently it was ranked #46 on July 1st in what's hot. While that is still pretty cool, I am surprised I didn't see a big jump in downloads that day. I guess that is still a ways down the list, and that was within a few subcatogories. Curious as to how many downloads others saw when they were featured.
