looking for developer

I apologize in advance if my questions have been covered before. I looked through several pages of similar threads and couldn't find anything. Secondly, thanks for creating this welcoming community. I've learned a lot in the week or so I've been here. on to my questions: I'm looking for development help for my very simple, yet useful medical app. It's basically creating an easily accessible app for a relatively small number of categories (~10+ and growing), followed by the same 11 subcategories, each with about a paragraph of information. I'm wanting the ability to update the database periodically so as I understand it, hosting the information on a server. I've got a few quotes from local professional companies at anywhere from 4,000$ up to 15,000$. I understand my idea is extremely simple on the scale of potentially complex application development. My original guestimates were between 3,000-5,000$ so my lowest bidder is on target. I have my database in a Word doc & Excel file as to make data extraction as simple as possible. (and reduce costs)I also already have a graphic designer taking care of my icon. Am I on the right track? I believe in my idea and want to see it through. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It seems like you are on the right track. Cost varies, if you need further help private message me and we can take it from there. The quotes you received are about the same around here. Very similar price point. Quick question what are your plans to feed the data like? I know you said you have them in Word Doc and Excel, how do you want to feed it? And do you want automated feeding?

Honestly, that's the side that I don't understand. My ignorant answer is whichever way creates the best product and maintains a user friendly environment. I've been told that leaving the data in an excel file can slow down the in-app retrieval process (which I don't want) one more question: for gathering beta testers, how would a developer get the testable app to the tester? I'm not looking for technical answer, more of: should I collect emails or phone numbers to have that ready once the development phase gets to that arena

@Jeremy, coderx is right about the variance of costs to develop and $3-5k is about right. Pricing certainly depends on the complexity and effort needed to create a well formed and easily accessible application. I think we have a very savy group of developers here that would assist in your development for a reasonable fee. Fell free to message us for help. AM

@Jeremy_M The excel is definitely not the way to go. It won't be appealing. If you have experience with mysql/php its not that difficult to create a database (same as your excel) and using jquery receive the specific information that needs to be retrieved. There are mannnny ways to do what you are looking for. As for Beta testers, first thing to do is to grab a Dev account from the respected website (apple dev, google dev). With apple you can have up to 100 people test out your app. With google its unlimited amount. I'd say email is the way to go in regards to collecting info in regards to beta testing. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I am also looking for someone to develop a medical App. I've already done a version for the iPhone (in the Store under 'ENT Handbook'), and need exactly the same thing for Android. I've recently made some minor changes to the content and subheadings, but have this all in Word and html documents, whichever is easier from your point of view. Please message me and let me know what you think would be a reasonable fee for your services.
