From Rejected to Approved!

Hi Everyone, The background to the saga of these apps is posted in the rejections forum. Both were eventually approved after a pointless month-long hold-up. I re-submitted one unchanged and it passed, the other just required a slight change to the title and Apple were happy. My trouble was that Apple don't give you any help in unblocking an incredibly minor issue, I couldn't figure out what the problem was and they just wouldn't tell me - I started to wonder if I could continue to develop under these conditions, would I ever have an app passed again? After some great advice on the BT forums, I got them to state their issue and the problem was solved in less than five minutes. The learning: Don't lose hope even if Apple drive you to tearing your hair out, seek advice from your peers here at the BT forums, there's always a solution (and it's usually pretty simple).

Excellent! Way to take on Apple and win! If it's appropriate, could you share what the original rejection was, and how you overcame it? That sort of information could be very valuable to many people on this forum. Thanks! Mark

Sure Mark, I posted a full account on the rejections forum that answers your question, so you can check that out rather than me go through it again here. In summary, they were both 10.6 rejected, I deleted AS and re-submitted (hoping for a less pernickety reviewer) and it passed. Sabbath - I stripped some custom HTML and it passed 10.6 but got hit with 22.5, turned out that they wanted a slight adjustment to the title.

Mark, I just noticed that I didn't post an outcome update on that forum for 'app 1' (Black Sabbath App) for your reference, here's the exchange after I made 10.6 changes but then got slammed with 22.2: 22.2 We found that your app, and/or its metadata, contains content that could be misleading to users, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. If your iTunes Connect Application State is Metadata Rejected, we do NOT require a new binary. In iTunes Connect > Manage Your Applications, select your app and click View Details. - Click Edit in the Metadata section - Revise the desired metadata values - Click "Save" at the bottom of the screen - Once you click Save, you will see the "Submit New Metadata" button in the top right. Click "Submit New Metadata" If your iTunes Connect Application State is Rejected, a new binary will be required. Make the desired metadata changes when you upload the new binary. NOTE: Please be sure to make any metadata changes to all App Localizations by clicking the Edit button next to each localization. Jul 3, 2012 05:21 AM. Hi Guys, We're very disappointed at this latest rejection on separate grounds from the last, however we're really keen to work with you to resolve the issue. This is mystifying to us, and I write this e-mail in some trepidation as I know Apple do not normally provide instructive responses. We're not asking for you to 'pre-approve' anything, nor prejudice your position nor issue advice or anything, but we would like to politely ask you for a bit of clarity; please guys, just help us out with your thinking a little bit. The standard guidelines blurb above suggests that there's either an issue with the metadata or with the app itself that was previously unmentioned. Could you let us know which it is? It says that 'If your iTunes Connect Application State is Metadata Rejected, we do NOT require a new binary' if it is 'Rejected', we do. However in the FAQs and documentation that list all the possible review states, 'Metadata Rejected' is not a state. If metadata is the issue we'll re-do it at once. If you've found issue in the app itself, I must confess that I could stare at it for weeks and still not be sure of what your issue is. Could you give us some hint as to where your seeing the problem. If it's the app and not the metadata even a screen grab as a signpost would be like manna from heaven. I know that in your daily work you must encounter frequent moaning from developers, but guys, put yourself in my position - it's like Kafka. We could keep on doing and re-doing this into the next decade without stumbling on something that might actually be small and easily dealt with to resolve the problem. We try to do everything we can to fall in line with what Apple want, but we never get any help in doing so. Please guys, just some indication, help us out? Jul 4, 2012 10:11 AM. From Apple. 22.2 Specifically, we noticed your app name is not in the correct format. For example, the following are acceptable: Vault "for Black Sabbath" Vault "Black Sabbath edition" Vault "Black Sabbath version" If your iTunes Connect Application State is Metadata Rejected, we do NOT require a new binary. Jul 4, 2012 10:33 AM. Hi Guys, Thanks very much for your feedback, we have changed the app name and amended the metadata as per your suggestion. Do you require the binary to be resubmitted or do you now just review the changed title & description? -At this point they just approved it and didn't mail back-
