Forum

Just wondered, is it possible to have the newest posted subjects at the top of the forum, so if a subject has been commented on its goes to the top?

I would also like to be able to search the message body in the forum. I know I have lost track of something I noticed and then later thought "What a great idea, I wonder where I saw it?"

It's been the same for a long time, even on the old site design, it's probably unlikely to change. It's a pain for us, but it makes a lot of sense for BT to have it this way. Google loves fresh relevent content to index which bt has, hence one of the reasons posts are indexed on google within minutes, giving a lot of search visibility to bt. If the latest posts in a thread went to the top, it'd nearly always be "how to make money with free apps" at the top!!! If you're self hosted I knocked up a little free mod that searches within the message body, or myskylla.com has got a search, or in google just put site:buzztouch.com - then your search query.

Not saying that's a definite reason why, but I know I'd do the same if it was my site, even though as a user I really don't like it!

Sometimes I do better searching for Buzztouch content on google than on Buzztouch.

@AussieRyan I wanted to search the forum post, so what i do is i use safari then i when on the page i press command f. and search that way. Only works for mac users though. Sure you can find something that does that for windows.

@mysterysolver: Tapatalk integration is designed for popular open-source forum packages. We don't use a forum package like phpBB or a dozen others. @Everyone else: The forum isn't designed for maximum search visibility but does do very well on Google. An added bonus ;-) It's designed to keep the content fresh so site visitors don't see the same topics all the time (popular, views, etc). Like @raveyd considered, most of the same topics would stay at the top if it was obvious how to keep them there. Think spam. Major issue. If searching sucks we should figure out a better way. Maybe a "favorite" button? We were going to do this but figured subscribing was enough? Maybe adding a favorite button in combination with subscribing would be an improvement? I guess you don't need to stay subscribed to a topic all the time to make it important. Hmmm... The idea in this post was: "have the newest posted subjects at the top of the forum" Maybe simple Newset Topics and a Newest Posts link. Already have the newest topics. Plus, maybe a setting in your account settings to choose the default view for the forum? I'll ponder this a bit and see what we can whip up. The forum is an ongoing battle to find the best mix for the highest number of visitors. Good comments, glad to hear them.
