app focuses primarily on marketing or promoting your business (iOS)

Apple says: "We found that your app provides a limited set of features and functionality, and focuses primarily on marketing or promoting your business, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines." Well, that's what it's for! Any ideas what I can do? This app promotes a local film company and shows their photos / promo clips / blog / twitter / vlogs / etc. Maybe if I added a way for people to send them their resume's and headshots, that might do it?

Hi @basement, It's tough with Apple for sure. Basically, if an app isn't taking advantage of some native iOS feature, and it is something that could as easily be done on a website, then they chances for rejection are higher. They're looking for interactive experiences that keep users coming back to the app again and again. I suspect a way to send resume's and headshots would help for sure. Not sure what else to suggest...hopefully others can provide some feedback as well. Oh...a map with driving directions to their office, and perhaps shooting locations might help? Mark

I have come across this many times, try enabling iads. That way apple thinks they are gonna make money off the app.I do this all the time and they always approve it. -Jack

I'd have thought that showing the latest vlogs / tweets / shoot info would be enough. What if I add a map showing shoot dates/times as they arrive, if they're looking for extras etc. Is there a way to add time sensitive info to maps without going through BT? Something the client could add themselves maybe? (e.g. shoot at .....address.... 10am July 15th. Casual dress, see Kelly when you arrive to sign waivers.) Although this is what we were going to use the push features for.

You might also consider adding user interaction like Socialize so people can share and like the photos and video clips.

second attempt failed with the same reasons. This version included information on where people could go to be a part of the movie shoots, with times locations (tied into maps and ical) etc. I also added scringo. Any ideas what I can add to get this through? It's making me look bad to my client. The app shows their facebook feed, it shows their promo and behind the scenes videos, twitter, photo gallery, etc. It does promote their business but it does a lot more. This is what Apple said: "We found that your app focuses primarily on marketing or promoting your business, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. " HALP!

Did you try deleting it from iTunes Connect, then creating it new in iTunes Connect and resubmitting? That worked for me before. I think I got a different reviewer.

I got another rejection. This time they also said that the design didn't meet their standards. This really pissed me off, so I sent them screengrabs and said "are you not seeing what I'm seeing"? Literally within one hour, the app was approved and in the app store! http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/skylightflms/id538148866?mt=8
