Impossible Rejections

Hi Everyone, As highlighted in my comments on other posts I've just had two rejections, and here's the (slightly bizarre & maddening) story so far. Both apps were initially 10.6 rejections: App 1: 10.6 Two screen grabs from the app were attached to the feedback, they were of some custom HMTL content and a subtle hint that it was lame on iPad in particular. App 2: Standard 10.6 with no information. So here's what I did. App 1: Re-designed the area of the app highlighted in the grabs they sent. Stripped out all HTML, uploaded new binary. App 2: Polite e-mail asking for a little bit more info -any little hint- as to what precisely the problem was. As is typical, I got a copy-and-paste 'your problem, specifically, is 10.6' type response. I have come to conclude that actually talking to Apple is a pointless waste of time and so pursued the 'unlucky with the reviewer' theory, deleted the app and re-submitted with a new ID. Here's what happened next: App 2 is still in review but..... App 1: After a week of my amended binary waiting for review, it went into review for three hours until finally generating a 'needs further time for review' delay. It remained in review for 4 working days (6 if you include the weekend) and then this morning a response! No more 10.6, but now this: 22.2: Apps that contain false, fraudulent or misleading representations will be rejected. We found that your app, and/or its metadata, contains content that could be misleading to users, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. I cannot begin to understand what they are talking about and have no clue on how to deal with it. I could sit staring at the app for weeks and still not come up with the answer as to what they think are false, fraudulent or misleading representations. Of course, the problem could be resolved very simply by them just telling me where the issue lies. What makes this such a Kafkaesque nightmare is that if I ask them they won't tell me, just fob me off with a copy-paste 'please comply' response. As others have noted, it feels like they're looking for reasons to reject. So it leaves developers in an impossible situation, I have absolutely no idea how to make good this setback. No clue where to even begin. Do Apple want people to fail?

I'd ask Apple. I've done it before and been told the actual issue -- one app had lyrics listed to a copyrighted song. After dropping a bunch of content and reworking the app, only to have it rejected again, I asked a couple times exactly what the offending content was and they told me. Wish I would have asked after the initial rejection. Would have saved me some time. You may still get what seems like a bureaucratic run-around, but it doesn't hurt to ask specifically. Also, you can talk directly to the reviewer. I've had good conversations with reviewers in the past and it helped me get the changes made to have my app approved.

Thanks for the advice and sharing your experience MGoBlue, that's a real big help. When you say that you talked directly to the reviewer, was that on the phone? How did you initiate that process? All I've ever had from using the resolution centre exchanges are fob offs.

Both times I've talked with someone, they've called me. I honestly don't recall, but I think I asked to talk to someone in one of my responses.

Good info! Had no idea they would actually call. Did you give your number or ask for a call? Or was it a surprise? David buzztouchmods.com

I'm pretty sure I asked for a call. It's been a while and I don't recall exactly. In neither instance did they change their position, but at least I was able to talk through the issue and come up with a solution that worked.

Update on this thread. App 2: Deleted and re-submitted immediately....has passed. What a pointless waste of everybody's time.
