RSS Formatting

Hi! I am making an IOS app and one of the menu items pulls Latest Posts from my blog. It does pull the lateest posts, but when I tap on an individual Post Title the screen that comes up has the article, plus my sidebar and footer just like a webpage. What should I do so that it only pulls the content and not the rest of the blog? (I am using a responsive wordpress theme. I also use feedburner.) Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! Erika

Hi Erika, You should install a plugin that will detect mobile browsers and reformat the screen to suit. There are several that are good, and I primarily use "WP Mobile Detector" on my sites. Jeff

Thank you both for your help so quickly :-) I'll try those techniques out and see what happens, although with WP Mobile Detector, that has me close a mobile theme. Since my site is already responsive in it's design that might not work.

I've used WPTouch a few times. But I'm not sure how that works with your responsive theme (just like WP Mobile Detector). I would have thought that a "responsive" theme would allow you to disable sidebars on mobile detect, or something similar?

Thanks for replying, yes it does, but then the people who visit my site outside of my app, just browsing on Safari, miss out on the content I want to have available to them. I am sure there is some sort of code that I can apply, I just haven't found it yet :-)

I haven't tried this yet, but you could probably set up a subdomain with wordpress installed to share the posts from the database of your main site. The subdomain could have a completely mobile theme. I've looked to doing this for one of my sites, but haven't gotten around to actually trying it.

Right before I went responsive, I did start to do this, then I worried about SEO, asked some people and all of them said to just go responsive. It's okay. I might just keep it the way it is. I have 4 apps on the appstore already (not made with BT, made on my own) and I added iAd to 2 of them, but when they are not showing I have custom ads running. The ads go to my husband's company blog and the stats for the first month was quite impressive. I set-up a separate Landing Page to track visits and users who came in via the ads stayed 1min 30sec longer than the desktop user, plus the ads made up 33% of the traffic, so I hesitate to omit any content for this new app. On top of that their site wasn't even responsive! I guess I just wanted to take it to another level (over my head, obviously). I love the way Flipboard handles feeds. So very clean and readable. Then you get the option to launch in Safari. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this so much! Erika
