Money Question

So i have developed a few apps for a few local restaurants, they are all star restaurants. How much would you sell the app for? The app includes menu, twitter, directions, quizzes and much more. Thanks, Jack

For me, absolute minimum of $1,000. Probably in the $2,500-3,500 range. You'll have to see what the market will bear. If they have perceived value, they should be willing to pay more. If it's seen as a gimmick with no real value to drive customers, they'll probably be hesitant to pay much.

I have a question regarding this. I have a business interested in an app. The fan base is in the millions. I can do it for them but that much pressure will destroy my self hosted server. How do i come up with a solution to sell them an app but not have anything to do with using my server. Also is there a way to show them a test app for iOS without publishing or jailbreaking, like how android you can just send an apk to someone and they install it, But for iOS?

When you build a concept house you're betting you'll be able to sell it. You can always drop the price till somebody will definitely buy it. Sometimes the price is below the construction loan which presents a problem. The only way to close the deal is to dig in your pocket our get the bank to take a loss. You've built a app for a market of one. Seems they have a good negotiation position. How much, well that depends how hungry you are. But remember the app will probably need maintaince to keep it up to date. How much time will that take. The data the app can capture can be very valuable. If you sell the app too cheaply they may take future updates to able. If you don't give them the source code you haven't really sold then the app. What are you obligating yourself to. Have you worked out future service or do do plan to hold then hostage. So many questions. Fred

Fred's right. Lots of questions regarding updates and maintenance. There are no hard and fast rules. @ceerup - To answer your question, you have a number of options that would work. The easiest is to make it an offline app without any calls to your server. That means if they want updates, they'll need to pay you to update, recompile and resubmit the app. Another option is to sell them a self hosted server. You install the BT server on their own web server, or have them lease a server that can handle the expected bandwidth. David at Buzztouch could probably give you some good insights on server load.

For me, personally, that's what I'd be looking at. Here's a link to one of my app packages I'm marketing. It may give you some ideas. http://jc-evans.com/services/custom-iphoneipad-droid-apps/winery-apps/

I have recently moved into the business of developing and selling mobile products to deliver digital content and for me I follow these simple rules in no particular order: Cost wil deppend on: 1. What your client wants and whether you are able to meet their expectations? 2. Is it fully native, web based or a combination of both? 3. How long will it take you to build the app? 4. Are there any opportunities to earn from it? 5. How much value may it have for the client? 6. How managable is the content? 7. Most importantly how much do YOU want for it? Do you have a day rate, I wouldn't really get out of bed for a minimum £250 per day; However being self-employed makes you do things you sometimes feel wasn't worth it. My girl friend is a life coach and she is always saying to me to value my time and myself and others will do the same to you. Something like that, if you get my drift. Be BOLD!
