IOS Testers Wanted

I'm looking for a few people willing to Beta test a couple of apps I'm working on. One is my Michigan football app, the other is a quiz app I'm building for a client. I'm really looking for usability feedback as well as any bug reports or issues. So far, this will only be for iOS apps. I use testflightapp.com for distribution. If you can help, use the link below to register. I'll be notified and will include you in the next build I distribute. http://tflig.ht/qaWdTo Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Mark. Much appreciated. I plan on sending the next Michigan Football build tonight. The client app will be after the 4th unless I crank on it Monday.

You guys are awesome. Thanks. If you haven't registered your device with test flight, please do. I need to add your device ID to the provisioning profile.

Thank YOU, been looking for an oppertunity to give test flight a whirl, esp on this side of the fence. Want to start using it for clients myself. My device should be all registered. Strange that before you install the profile you had to enter a password. I kept thinking this was going to be sent by testflight after some approval. LOL when I realized it just wanted my device password. My 3GS should be set-up now! Ready for some Denard Robinson highlights.....

Tried it on both my 4S with 5.1 and my ipad2 with 6.0 all the screens have loaded fine, like the custom headers. It is a good looking app. One thing I noticed was that when I went to the photo upload page, the back button does not work. You have to press cancel. I think this is just the way the plugin works, but I thought I would point it out. (Maybe eliminate the button?) Curious if you are using the testflight API options, or just using it for distribution. I have not yet used it for anything but sending it out.

@Crown Solutions - So far just using the distribution. I started to put the SDK into the app for more extensive testing but ran into some errors I couldn't immediately figure out. I'm going to figure out the SDK and start using it. Thanks for the feedback. I was curious about 6.0, glad it seems to be working. Have a couple issues that have been reported. Going to see if I can get them fixed. @ATRAIN53 - I'll include you on the next build. Thanks!

Installs and runs fine on a 3GS. Check that off the list, you're compatible. I’m trying to run thru as many features and break it if I can. Nice boring meeting this AM so a chance to play with it while I was supposed to be learning something else… Sounds like you're ready to submit for approval yesterday. Overall it's just a few strokes short of masterpiece, even having to stare at all the hideous Maze and Blue..... Header: I like, no wait LOVE the header - but I noticed the screen name and the header do conflict on a few screens. Most notably on the photo screens. The screen name is overlayed on top of the header. On the home screen you have a Refresh and a Camera button on the navbar with the header. While I navigate thru the app - any APP I use to be honest I like when the nav bar has a BACK or a HOME button on it. It's like the BACK button on web browsers. If I want to see the info I was just looking at, I know I can always click the BACK button. I like when apps function like this too. Yours seems to do this in some places and in others the nav bar is just the header image with no nav controls. The fact I see it on the home page leads me to think you can have it if you want it on screens (you haven’t broke the BT nav controller using a header image which i bet was a task) So there are a few places I would maybe add it in the app so it's just consistent. It looks fine with a BACK button on the left next to that ugly logo. It's not busy at all and needed functionality IMO. That might also just be me not using or relying on TAB bar apps to navigate. I just don't think "screen navigation" with tab bar, I always think "new content" when I hit a tab. and perhaps it's just me again but.... The screens that have a bottom toolbar on them, like the Schedule screen where it is stacked on top of the tab bar. I see this in a few apps and not a fan of this look either. It's valuable screen real estate that seems wasted. I do see where you have the socialize bar stacked on top of the tab view on some screens - this looks good as it has the same color and looks like an add on. But the bottom toolbar in other places I would think about removing when possible. (unless it has essential controls for a screen like the map) The only function/screens that gave me any device trouble were the photo screens. Trying to view Fan Photos crashed the app right away (3 times i tried it and it's consistent) The Email/Take and choose all work ok. (and these are the screens I see the name overlaid on the header.) Thanks for letting me look at it and try out test flight as an end user. I can’t say enough how helpful you’ve been in many areas so hopefully this testing is returning the favor in some way? I’m just blown away by your work and knowledge, excellent work.

@ATRAIN53 - Thanks for the awesome feedback. I need to fix the overlay text on the custom nav bar. Those screens don't work the same as the others. Need to find the code to comment out. Much appreciated!

@ATRAIN53 - Thanks for the feedback. You must be running iOS 4.3 on your 3GS. Most of the issues you found don't show up on 5.0. Thanks for the heads-up - especially the lack of the back button on various screens. It has to do with the way iOS 4.0 renders the custom nav bar. It's different (and better) in 5.0. It looks like in 4 it's overlaying the nav bar on top of the back button instead of behind it. It you tap the upper left corner when you're on a screen like the quiz instructions, it will back you to the previous screen - it just doesn't show the button.

I always test on the Lowest Common Denominator/device. I know plenty of 3GS are out there. It's annoying but it's just reality. I can't even test some of my own plug-in work on my own phone. How do you cope with this issue then? - you're not limiting 3GS/iOS4 users from installing the app? (which i think is the best way to go) But if/when they complain about something not working. do you say 'you need to upgrade your IOS? I think this is where a lot of apps get slammed in reviews with people saying 'it sucks, crashes every time please fix and app will be great!' I don't base my app downloads on reviews - UNLESS i see a bunch of it 'it sucks and crashes' reviews... This is definately where I notice the performance and crashing on my device - the screens under the MORE tab. I did notice that the buttons seem to exist as ghosts. I also did some tinkering with the Socialize you have integrated. Curious to see this in action and wondering if I would see other users comments/likes/profiles. Happy to keep testing, send along the builds when you get them done! and i almost forgot to mention - great app icon! one more note: Stadium Map it loads on my device but it's empty grey tiles UNTIL you tap or move it. I had the same issue on my 2.0 Location map. I had to tun on the "Show user Location" in the CP before the map loaded. I think you want to turn the "Show user location Button" OFF so it gets rid of that half/quasi looking button on the far right side of the bottom toolbar.

@ATRAIN53 - Thanks! Haven't been able to duplicate the crashing issue. I've been playing with changing the deployment target to see if I can avert any of these issues. Of course that does start to limit the market. The back button is interesting because the camera icon shows up on the right, but the back button does not. Working on finding a solution. Regarding the bottom toolbar stacked on the tab bar. Part of this is a BT or Apple limitation that I can't overcome. I need the browser back button in that tool bar, and from a tab screen there is no way to hide the tabs. So, I'm stuck with the stacked bar. I saw you did some socialize sharing. (Saw from the GetSocialize.com control panel, not from within the app.) It appears that you can't view others' comments or likes within the app. I need to explore that more. Thanks again.

Thanks, again everyone. Definitely made an improvement in the app having other eyes look at it. Submitted it yesterday, so we'll see how long approval takes. My client app, a Shakespeare game, will be ready for some testing this week. Really appreciate the feedback. Very valuable.

Good Luck, hope it goes straight thru. It's a beauty, lots of great features. The Apple folk seem to have taken the weekend off - have had one sitting in the waiting room for review since Fri morning (was hoping to sneak it thru on a quasi holiday weekend) Thanks for the Test Flight testing, good to see how that works. Have you tried the BT OTA on Self Hosted? I liked that too and it seems to eliminate the middle man. really no way around the UDID registration if you really want to test an app properly. Are there any stats/reports from test flight you found helpful/useful? Easy process overall? ---- I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks.

The BT OTA has been a bit quirky. I've had trouble uploading builds, and the browser sensor/redirect hasn't worked well. Haven't tried in a while, and perhaps its been fixed. The main challenge is getting the UDID registrations. That's really why I'm using test flight. It makes it pretty easy. I haven't gotten any reports from test flight. The SDK consistently tells me: "We're sorry, debugger is currently unavailable. Please bear with us as we work to improve site performance." So I'm pretty much just using test flight as my means of distribution to testers. Thanks again for the feedback. Once I know Apple will let this update go through, I'll update my other apps, including my Notre Dame app.

Hey my friends. For those of you who have signed up to help test my apps, I've sent a build of a client's app. It's a Shakespeare Trivia Quiz. The file is a bit large because we're embedding video clips and some music. If you wouldn't mind spending some time in the next day or two playing with the app and letting me know any issues you find I'd appreciate it. The app is currently only built for iPhone, but I think it will run on iPad. Haven't tried yet. Thanks.

Great work here MGoBlue! I downloaded this morning and gave it a quick run. Love the opening graphics,(going to have to ask how you did this) the custom header. I guess I need to read up, because I did not pass my first shot at the quiz. lol I tried to post my score, but the leader board would not load. (because of test I am guessing?) Like the sound option on the bottom tool bar as well. A very clean and well executed app, with just enough features to add, but not take away from what it actually does.

Sounds interesting. They have a Shakespere theatre in Hyde Park that does performances. My co-workers kid is in some of them. http://www.shakespearesyouth.com/about.html This is also something I bet Shakespere fans would enjoy. http://www.theatreinchicago.com/playdetail.php?playID=4845 It's Improv Shakespere on the lakefront. saw it a few years ago, very cool. Shakespere festivals everywhere. Maybe an app that tracks all those fests around the country would be in order for you next? I swear I once saw somethign Shakespere related in Atlanta once and that was Shakespere with a twang. What about some Boston Shakespere.... Let me clear some space off my phone and i'l try to get around to testing it in the next few days. I've been playing with some video plug-ins myself and didn't realize my 8GB 3gs was full. Amazing the performace hit when the device is out of space!
