[TUTORIAL] The Ultimate Mobile RSS Screen

I've outlined this setup before on the forums, but I never actually wrote it up as a proper tutorial. So, here you are :) ========= One of the things that many new users ask with BT's RSS screen is why it doesn't work in "offline" mode (seen it LOADS of times on the forum) , and why the menu screen always directs you to the website, rather than showing the post in plain text. I can't really explain WHY this happens, but here is a set of instructions to help you create a mobile version of your RSS feed, so users aren't taken to the desktop version to view RSS results. OVERVIEW: ========= To achieve what is setout above, we're firstly going to create a WordPress blog, install several plugins and create a mobile RSS website. It's simple, trust me. INSTRUCTIONS: ========== 1) Create a WordPress site: If you have web hosting, this is especially easy. Install WordPress in a subdirectory, or wherever you like on your server, just remember the URL. You can install WordPress using 1-Click installers typically provided by major hosts, otherwise you can install it manually uploading the files via FTP and creating a database. For instructions on setting up WordPress manually, visit: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress If you have any issues installing WP let me know - this is probably the hardest step! 2) Login to your WordPress control panel, navigate to Plugins -> Add New and search for the following: FeedWordPress - this plugin takes your existing RSS feed from the desktop site and parses it to include it in your new mobile news site. WPTouch - easily builds your site into a mobile-friendly website. 3) Once installed, go to the FeedWordPress setting page in your WP backend. Here, you need to setup a new feed to import. Make sure you have your RSS feed URL handy, and make sure you set the importer to run reasonably frequently (every few hours if you post frequently). You can easily import pre-existing posts through the importer, too. 4) Next, make sure you have enabled FeedWordPress and setup any customisation options that you'd like, ie your logo, etc. 5) Whip out your phone, go to the URL you setup the site on and test it! 6) Assuming everything is working, now, add your new RSS site to your BT app. You can find your WordPress site's RSS link as set out here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Feeds In summary, though, you can find your RSS link by ?feed=atom to the end of your mobile site's URL. 7) There you are! You now have your main site's RSS feed being parsed automatically into a mobile friendly site. Enjoy! ============ Have I missed anything, or do you need any help? Reply below or PM me and I'll try my best to get back to ya ASAP. // J

Looks really good. I have tried to do an RSS feed with Joomla before but could not get the pictures to load.

Great post! Another great feature of using WPtouchpro paid is that you an easily embed Google Adsense, Admob and other header ads. Very much worth it!

I believe Fred's blog redirects you to this page: https://buzztouchmods.com/downloads.php?cat_id=1&download_id=14 Is that right Fred? This is not an official BT plugin so is not in the BT server options. Hope that helps and clarifies things for you guys.

But they'll miss all the other plugins, now that would be a shame. Fred

Ah, ta. I'm using Android. I've had a look through the threads and it appears there isn't an RSS plug-in for Android. Hey ho. Plan B (RSS feed in to HTML page) awaits. Not ideal but better than nowt.

@primevalmudd can you tell me if Plan B (RSS feed into HTML page)directs you to the website, rather than showing the post in plain text?
