my App is Titled..Classic FIlms for ESL...I have two already out, I take old Public Domain films, cut them into 5-10 minute sections then add quizzes to them for Non-Native English speakers who are learning the language. The app size is ok, just when i archive them it doubles it for some reason...

Well, I was thinking about that also, though I want the user to be able to take this wherever they are, without worrying about any connection problem or lag time, or am I being to old fashioned about that.

the user much rather a small app size than taking it wherever. 889 mb is alot of megabytes for a app, thats close to a gig, i only have 3 gigs left on my phone, and if an app was close to a gig i wouldnt download it, so take my mentality into consideration, because some people out there just like me might do the same, you want as much downloads as you can!

Ok, sounds like Reason....So, how about the other thing ? Any idea why whenever I try to archive the app it doubles in size?

Are you building for armv6 and armv7? If so I believe that is why it increases in size, you are effectively building two apps. Don't quote me on that but seems to make sense.

I'd also be very careful about building an app that big! Most people only have a limited space on their phones, and even at the 1Gb before building, that's pretty huge! That's literally 1/16th of the total amount of space most people have. In addition, they'll have to download and install via WiFi. Have you looked at ways to reduce the size of the media files? The app sounds very worthwhile, and I'm sure there are ways to get those video files smaller. What format are they currently in? Mark

Can you not use m4v for both iPhone and iPad? I think .mov are a bit bigger in size than m4v ones are. But I may be incorrect...I don't know a lot about it. Mark

.mov are indeed larger file sizes, far less chance of pixelation.

But if you create an m4v file for iPad, and it looks good, the same file should look better on the smaller iPhone, right?

I'm inclined to say yes. That is what got me on that last post. So, yes. If m4v is displaying on iPad without issues I'd drop the large .mov files. Hard to say without seeing it. Only @pulverdingen can say I suppose. Leaving office now, back shortly.

i think using URLs to point to the videos is definitely the best bet, the majority of users are near wifi spots (atleast in the U.S) so having to be on the internet isnt a huge deal.

I agree with you @Ceerup but it is nice to have offline apps as well, then again, as you said above, I'd really think twice about an app that size. I'm constantly deleting apps on my 16gb 4S to accommodate new installs. My TomTom app is probably around 1gb and that is as high as I'll ever go again.

same here @MacApple, I deleted some great games that I bought, just to have room for other things, my iphone is also 16 gigs, so im constantly deleting apps to make way for new apps.

Is there any method to download perhaps lesson 1- 10, when the user listens to and completes a lesson (lesson a) it deletes when lesson a+2 is completed. Then the user would have 10 lessons. 8 upcoming and 2 to review. Adjust number of lessons accordingly. Fred
