Having trouble downloading xcode

Was wondering if you need to have OS X Lion in order to get Xcode. I tried getting Xcode but a message said I need 10.7.3 or higher. I updated my Mac, and turns out 10.6.8 is as high as it will go. So do I need to dish out the $29.99 to get OS X Lion first?

If you join the Apple Developer program, you can download previous versions of Xcode. I run 4.2 on Snow Leopard. Mark

I'm only 13, can I still make an Apple Developer account? It says I legally need to be 18 or older.

If I were you, legally, I would get my parent's permission first. Lots of kids do the whole process in their parents names put in their names as the developer.

Was wondering if there is any way of downloading xcode 4.2 for snow leopard without creating an apple developer account? I will eventually fork out the $99 for membership but would prefer to have a bit better understanding of what I'm doing and have had a few trial runs first Thanks

@Bennyd if you are not upgraded to Lion and you don't want to upgrade, then you may be able to google for a free 4.2 download. But if you wants to do it the "right" way, then you have to shell out $99 for the Apple Developer Program, where you can download previous versions of Xcode.

Ok cheers. Sounds like a lot less trouble so I will do it that way, was just thinking it will probably take me a year or more to create anything worth publishing lol. Thanks

Ok so I have registered as an apple developer but the only previous versions of xcode that it says is for snow leopard is 3.2 I tried this but when I install it it tells me its not suitable for my os x Should I try the 4.2 version even tho it says its for Lion?
