Guide to BTv1.5 (Android) Screens & Actions

* * * Guide to BTv1.5 (Android) Screens & Actions * * * BTv1.5 (Android) has 15 Screens & Actions A "screen" is not an action, and An "action" is not a screen. In most discussions & posts "screen" usually means both screen & action, just be aware sometimes it makes a difference which type you're using. Actions cannot be used as home screens (or in tabbed layout). Login screen cannot be used as a home screen (or in tabbed layout). - - - Menu Screens - - - Menu (List) (Add icon images to BT_Images folder) Menu (Buttons) (Add button images to BT_Images folder) Menu Search (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) - - - Content Screens - - - Multiple Choice Quiz (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Custom URL, Webpage (the webpage will cache into localStorage) Custom HTML, Text (saves html online on Buzztouch's server) YouTube Video (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) HTML Document Embedded (add your HTML doc files to the BT_assets folder) Via URL Doc Screens (use alternatives) PDF Doc .pdf (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Word Doc .doc (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Excel Doc .xls (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) PowerPoint Doc .ppt (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Location Map RSS Feed (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Image Gallery (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Image Uploader (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Image Emailer (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Streaming Audio (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Streaming Video (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Load Custom Plug-in (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) - - - Settings Screens - - - Show Device Info Allow/ Prevent GPS (Remember to allow GPS in "Core" settings in the Control Panel) Login Screen (possibly the most under utilized & understood screen) - - - Splash Screens - - - Image Splash Screen (Sorta works, has a bug, will crash your app) - - - Other Actions - - - Launch a Native App (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Share via Facebook (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Share via Twitter (doesn't work in BTv1.5 Android) Share via Email Share via Text/ SMS Email Us Call Us Text Us (SMS) For additional info on these screens & actions I suggest the following: a. Buzztouch v1.5 documentation (in the How-To Section) b. Buzztouch Screens, a detailed examination (in the documentation section of my guide www.MySkylla.com) Alternatives to non-working screens usually provided. Plus you'll find links to additional information. By learning HTML you can approach full functionality of every screen type. So, "it can't be done" usually means "I haven't figured out how to", so think outside the box and you'll find it's probably possible. For screens that don't work there's usually an alternative. If you use a non-functioning screen you'll usually get a text message screen or a unable to load screen message. Every screen has it's quirks so get to know them. Not every screen works "just as in iOS", so when working with Android be Android. As noted above BTv1.5 (Android) has 15 screens & actions, whereas BTv2.0 has 32+ screens and actions. The only BTv1.5 (Android) feature missing from BTv2.0 (Android) is: a. Header Images, and b. Menu list icons. Using HTML you can accomplish same. BTv1.5 (Android) while a powerful and useful tool that never really made it out of beta, but it was reborn into BTv2.0. That being said, many users continue to use it with its limitations successfully. Note: The following screens work in BTv2.0 (Android) a. The doc screens (PDF, Word, Excel, Power Point) b. Quiz plugin. (Very nice) c. Image Gallery d. Splash Screen e. Launch a Naive app Browser YouTube Google Maps Music Store (Use this for streaming audio) App Store Book Store - BTv1.5 iOS only Mail SMS Dailer Custom URL Scheme 3rd Party BTv1.5 cannot be self-hosted. You can take the online Config file to Dropbox, but that's an entirely different subject. Currently there's no method to convert your BTv1.5 app to BTv2.0 via the Control Panel. However, by learning how to edit the Config file and taking the Config file to Dropbox it's possible to "convert" your BTv1.5 app into a BTv2.0 app. (It's not actually converted, you rebuilt it, but it's not cut & paste either. OK, it's "converted".) By learning how to take the Config file off the Control Panel you can copy BTv1.5 apps. If you wish to use the same Buzztouch app for iOS & Android consider taking the Online Config file for one or both to Dropbox. To ensure your app's Config file is up to date when you publish the app consider using Dropbox for the Online Config file. To facilitate continuing development of the app use Dropbox for the Online Config file. Seems, we have a theme going here. "Use Dropbox For Your Online Config File". * * When I refer to Dropbox, I actually mean any non-Buzztouch web hosting solution, such as your website or server, pasteHTML.com, another online storage provide, your device. ******************************* To Simplify it here I stripped what doesn't work in BTv1.5. * * * Guide to BTv1.5 (Android) Screens & Actions * * * BTv1.5 (Android) has 15 Screens & Actions - - - Menu Screens - - - Menu (List) Menu (Buttons) - - - Content Screens - - - Custom URL, Webpage Custom HTML, Text HTML Document Embedded Via URL Location Map - - - Settings Screens - - - Show Device Info Allow/ Prevent GPS Login Screen - - - Splash Screens - - - - - - Other Actions - - - Share via Email Share via Text/ SMS Email Us Call Us Text Us (SMS) Fred

Yes, my post is similar to the post you referenced, but it's even more similar to my Buzztouch Screens article which I published in my guide long before that post. I felt that I need to separate the Buzztouch Screens article into BTv1.5 and BTv2.0 since BTv2.0 has grown it's become a bit too jumbled up. Plus looking forward many uses will not know of or use BTv1.5 so it's probably best to have separate articles. I've rewritten the article twice. It's part of my ongoing process of improving and developing my guide and not remaining static. I also have a BTv1.4 guide I published early on (Also, Found in my Documentations section), and the post you referenced is similar to it. But that's only natural because we're both posting in the Buzztouch Forum. By the way his post is excellent and a welcome contribution to the Forum. So, thanks for your compliment and your welcome. Fred
