CRM-Style XLS/CSV Upload Mapping?

I'm still in the early stages of developing an app with buzzTouch. The app I'm looking to create will just be mainly an informational alternative to the currently crappy experience that users have while looking at my website on an iPhone or Android. I see that there is already a plug-in to upload spreadsheets to an app, which is good to know, but I was looking to see if anyone knew of another quick, efficient way to upload spreadsheets that would map and display information in the way that Zoho CRM/Creator do; something with a little more pop than just a boring spreadsheet. Anyone have any good ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have a screen shot for the magic "pop" you're referring to? Put an image on DropBox showing the Zoho CRM thing you like. The magic isn't going to have anything to do with how the app gets it's data. I'm thinking you have two different questions? a) How to provide the data for the map. Lots of ways to do this. b) How to change how the map appears to it looks different than the default behavior? Dunno, just a hunch.

Thanks David, I'll start with a little background about Zoho Creator: Creator is a cloud database program built similar to MS access where users create forms via a WYSIWYG setup for beginners, and a built-in Javascipt console for more advanced users. The fields that people put in (i.e. name, address, email, etc) lay in these forms and the information is displayed in columnized views after forms are submitted https://sites.google.com/site/samplesdisplaypage/ To skip the manual entry of records, users can upload from a CSV/XLS spreadsheet and 'map' all data from each column into the records as shown here: https://sites.google.com/site/samplesdisplaypage/sample2 The app I intend to create is for a sports league, and it needs to be updated on pretty much a daily basis. Importing spreadsheet data for stats/standings/schedules etc is what I'm looking to do, in a nice, stylized format if possible. Anything you know of that could help? Thanks again for the response David.

OK, this makes sense. What you're describing is a way to modify / update / upload spreadsheet data using Zoho creator - got it. But, this still doesn't have anything to do with your map, right? Unless, maybe you're thinking you want to use that tool to manage the data then "point" your map to that tool to get the data. I see how this could be useful. But, I highly doubt the Zoho tools allow "public access" to your data. The phone will need to be able to download data from whatever source it uses, Zoho in this case. Could it be easier to... a) Use the ZoHo tool each day to manage your data. b) Export the data to some sort of file. c) Upload that file to your website, DropBox, whatever to power the map. Not sure about your workflow. And, keep in mind that whatever file you "upload" to power the map will need to be in a certain JSON format. This means you may need to figure out how to get Zoho to export in your custom format. Dunno. I would start by seeing if the Zoho tool allows public access, export routines, etc. then figure out the next step.

Sorry man, when I say 'map' it's not in the sense of a geographic map of real world locations- in this context 'map' means you match up the spreadsheet columns to fill in data fields in a form during an import of the spreadsheet. The first image shows columns within the view in the creator application that originated as columns in an excel spreadsheet that were 'mapped' to fill in the fields of the form that they were based off of. It looks a lot more polished than simple spreadsheet columns, and I was looking to see if buzztouch offered something similar, specifically the way that you can customize your data import flow in as shown in the second image. Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

No worries, totally get it know. And, as you imagine, this isn't something we've done before. There are a few different approaches to handling this kind of thing if you run the self hosted package (you can customize anything in the open source PHP files). Don't think I can offer any advice? I agree that spreadsheet data can get very VERY boring and ugly. It's just a grid of info. Useful in some cases, useless in others.

Thanks, I'll look into the PHP route. Great job with it overall, Buzztouch is a hell of a fine resource, and I look forward to using it.
