[How TO] Setup up BT Push Notifications iOS Parse.com & Code Signing

Done...there is a link to a zip file from my Drop Box in the description on YouTube, it is legit! Wasn't sure how else to offer the code and images and the Parse SDK with the video to go along with the tutorial. Part 1: This is just the Apple provisioning part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHG7V8q0I_E Part 2: This is the Parse.com and Xcode (BONUS: Code Signing too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzmqCij-V1I Enjoy :P

thanks for the tutorial @Isillis not using Parse now but plan to soon. Nice to have a working BT reference to rely on when the time comes. I appreciate the efforts a lot. Videos downloaded and saved for future viewing! Custom Plugins on 2.0 are fun! I've got a iPad split screen one in the works that sounded like it would be good for the app you designed for the car dealership. really hard to test without an ipad and wrestling that away from the wife might require help from the Hulk Hogan. Start with the Blank Screen sample BT provides and keep it simple, then keep adding a view at a time. This tutorial here was a HUGE help for me: http://www.wmdeveloper.com/2010/07/create-uiview-uilabel-and-uibutton.html

@lsills81.. thank you for bringing Parse.com to my attention. New to iphone apps, but seasoned in dev work, and this looks like a great leveler for the uptake on buzztouch/iphone/etc.. drew..

Hi Isills81 I am following your tutorial but I don't have access to your dropbox to download the text file and I cannot read the writing on the screen. Can you supply the text document so I can complete my Parse integration?

I added the link to the first tutorial....maybe that was what you meant, that the link was not in the description on the first tutorial. Let me know if I made any other bonehead moves...ha

Hi Isills81 followed your guide to the letter, but didn't work for me, my problem is that my Installation ID string in Parse isn't showing, even though everything is setup correctly. Been having this problem for about 3 months, just cannot get pass this issue.

I left it out of the tutorial...thought I was recording? If you want to you can send me the source code and I will look at it but I bet that is your error.....let me know as I will be on my computer all day.

@lsills81 GREAT TUTORIAL - Thanks a million you made adding Parse to Buzztouch simple. I have a questions and I think I know the answer just want to verify. Are these steps correct for when we are ready to publish our app to the app. 1. Configure the "Production Push SSL Certificate" by repeating the steps documented in your turotial for the developer cert. 2. Export and upload the distribution .p12 file to Parse 3. Create and download a "Distribution Provisioning Profile" for the "push enabled" app ID 4. Go back to TARGETS > App Name > Build Settings > Assign the code Distribution profile to Code Signing

Yup! Repeat the steps but with a "Distribution" version instead of "Development".... :P Thanks for the kind words....I also did other tutorials on other various other options within iOS all under macordie81 channel youtube. I'll have a video tutorial up in a few days on how to create an app and then copy it for say...iPhone version and iPad version...one little extra part to this tutorial is I show you how to find and edit things within your BT_config.txt file so you can (this is the big part) independently change the app. Example....I made an iPad app that I wanted embedded PDF's and a iPhone version that used URL based PDF's (so the iPhone version is small enough to download over 3G but the iPad version has all the data once you download the app)....this may sound easy but remember that you can NOT specify different methods for the iPad and different methods for the iPhone like you can do for an image. This is a pretty intense tutorial...so much so that I think I may get a mic. Is this something you would ever use? For me it is invaluable (of course you could build the app twice but that is working harder and I prefer to work smarter.

I don't have a need at the moment for separate iPad and iPhone versions of the same app, but you never know when the situation might occur that this would be helpful to know. Watching a video tutorial on how to modify something directly in the BT_Config.txt would be helpful. Learning how to decipher the JSON data in this file could prove to be very useful for many reasons during all BT app development. If you make the tutorial I will definitely watch it.

When I try this tutorial, my iPhone is not asking me "Do you want to enable push notifications", I followed everything in the tutorial. Is there a part that was left out? Thanks, Jake

nope....that means that you are not setting up Push Notifications in the Provisioning Portal on developer.apple.com If you need help with this you can iMessage me at [email protected] or email me the app and I can look for myself. If your device never ask you if you want to allow Push Notifications you didn't set it up on the profile side.....most likely. You can check in Settings >> Notifications >> then look for your app?
