New look for BTU, webinars coming soon...

Hi gang, The new look in BTU is much closer to our longer term plans. We still have a few more updates coming (like allowing you to submit plugins and helpful how to PDF's you create) and some other goodies. But, you won't see them until the last few learning paths are released. We've already got a few inquiries (the same question basically) about the $0.99 and $4.99 webinar announcement so I'll answer it here too. Maybe it will save some cut-n-paste emails! Q: Why is it $0.99 to attend a basic webinar and $4.99 to attend a premimum one? Seems unfair that I would have to pay to learn. A1: Charging you next to nothing is our way of ensuring that you'll actually show up. Yes, reserving you a seat does cost us whether you realize it or not. Asking you to put a little skin-in-the-game is our way of helping you remember to attend. Another way to say it. If it's not worth the price, don't register. A2: Ever prepare to give a webinar? It's much more work than you may realize. A3: Because we don't want a room (virtual or otherwise) full of folks we can't actually get to know. Another way to say it. We don't let strangers in our house and we don't let strangers in our classroom. It's no fun, not conducive to learning, and not worth the effort (ours or yours). Asking you to "pay" helps us ensure you actually exist! Funny. Looking forward to getting the hang-outs going....

Nice one, sounds good. I let a stranger in my virtual house once and he stole all the marmalade, never again.

Let me chime in on that question also (from a user's viewpoint). A1. $1.00-$5.00 is VERY inexpensive in the area of webinars. I see a lot of webinars creep into the hundreds of dollars per attendee. A2. David is "spot-on" with his Answer #3. Its a well known fact that if you give something away for free, its more likely to be take for granted. When you charge even the smallest fee, the "customer" feels like they are making an investment in the information, and it is much more valued. A3. To answer the "why do we have to pay to learn" question... If you haven't learned anything yet with all the free resources available here, then those webinars are probably not for you! I look forward to them! Let me know if I can do anything to help!

Sometimes you just have to walk away from the keyboard. :) (before you wake up with a qwerty pattern on your forehead)

@David Sounds more than reasonable. Although I have signed up for webinars before only so I can get the recorded session later - Australia isn't always a conducive timezone for such events! Looking forward to them :)

Thanks David! I have some experience with webinars, and I can attest they are NOT free to put out. Were not talking about Google hangout, or Skype. Enterprise options for hosting these can get expensive and I encourage you to charge something. I also feel that charging will get you a more engaged audience. Thanks for what you are doing here!

Good point, but also equally true for almost same timezones. Many things to do and so little time. Perhaps a interested but unable to attend option. Fred

I believe that it would be great if the webinars were recorded. I did one where we charged $1 per attendee and recorded it. Then put the recording and a copy of the powerpoint in the public folder of dropbox and emailed out the links for people to download at their leisure. We only had 100 registrants so there was not any spam issues, but you might be able to PM the links out. Brit

Sounds pretty awesome! I'll certainly be signing up to attend as many as I can. Anything to help put some money in the buzztouch coffers (and to learn some stuff to boot)! My concern about having some means where attendees could record it means for sure bootlegging. I guess I would hope that if a person is interested, and they can't attend, but that somebody else records it..it doesn't get shared without BT getting that extra 99 cents or whatever it ends up being. That would just be wrong. At least that's my two cents! Great concept, and I'm all in! Mark

David - I've seen the hours you keep with this venture. Are you considering offering additional webinars at times maybe more conducive to European and Asian followers?

Europe / Asia, others. For sure the scheduled times are important. We've worked out a few ways to balance this but ultimately every attended will need to decide how to "make it fit."

Will BuzzTouch U (BTU) Learning Path videos be updated including Plugins, Self-Hosting, and Others as well as the quizzes at the end?
