BTv2.0 Options

Hi, I am new to this and am able to work with V1.5. How can I use BTv2.0? Do I have to host it myself? Are there any step by step guides to set it up? Thank you!

Yes, you can use BTv2.0. Your options: 1. Account with Buzztouch.com non-self hosted. Rapid Setup All plugins selected by Buzztouch team You don't need to know about being an administrator Fantastic service which super cool team You can add any plugin to your source code Disadvantage: You Can't install plugins to Buzztouch's server (Buzztouch has awesome responsibilities and can't install just any plugin suggested) To use 3rd party plugin you must add to source code 2. BYOS API key from Buzztouch self-hosted BTv2.0 BYOS = Bring Your Own Server Advantages: It's your Control Panel Modify Control Panel as you desire Add any plugin you see fit. You're the administrator (the boss) You have sever for your website Disadvantages: You're an administrator (the responsibilities) You may install something you shouldn't have You must decide which plugins to install You pay for your server You'll learn to be a administrator 3. Account with someone running BTv2.0 Self hosted server. (That's me) Same as option 1, but it'll be easier to convince me to install a plugin Different plan options Each option has its advantages. Strongly recommend option two. Shameless plug. See my website for some options. www.MySkylla.com Fred

Hi Fred, Thank you for your help. I am sorry but I do not yet understand the options yet. Can you elaborate on the advantages/disadvantages of each? How much does it cost to access BTv2.0 on your server? Thanks!

Hi @SunSrf, Welcome to buzztouch! When you go to create a new app in your control panel, you get the "Create new application" page. From there, you can create a v2, v1.5 or v1.4 app. The v2 is the first option. You do NOT have to have a self-hosted server in order to create a v2 app, but you are restricted to the plugins that are offered by buzztouch at this time. Does that help? Mark

Hi Mark, Yes, thank you. I guess that is what I did. I created my first app and successfully made a screen using each of the styles but am looking for other plugins....are there other options? Thanks so much!

If you did a v2 app, then the options you see are the only ones available. There are a few more available for v1.5 iOS, but a few less for v1.5 Android. It's kinda weird, but that's the state of things. If you set up your own BT Server, doing the self-host thing, then you still only get the current v2 plugins, but you can go to someplace like buzztouchmods.com and install others. Those are ONLY available if you use a self-hosted server (yours or somebody elses). More plugins will be coming at buzztouch.com...I promise! David @ buzztouch is working super hard on them. Is there something in particular you want to do that you can't with the current plugins? Also...check out buzztouch.com/resources for TONS of documents that explain how to do various things. Mark

Hi Mark, Thank you so much for your help and time! I am an Aspiring developer. The apps I have in progress need some professional help to make them a bit more functional and polished. I have the basic foundation and screens all worked out. I would like to do to two things at this time: 1. Store videos in the app that will launch from a menu selection and run locally without internet activity. I have learned how to use a screen to launch a native app an play a YouTube video but it takes too long and requires an internet connection. 2. Allow the user to set up a reminder so that they would be prompted to open a certain screen at a pre-set time or in 5 minutes, 60 minutes, 2 hours, etc. Thank you!

Hi @SunSrf, If you are using v1.5, there is a Streaming Video screen that you can use. You would then include the video in your project files, and configure the screen with the filename of the video you are using. You'll see what I mean when you create that screen. That option is not available on v2 yet. For your second request...that would be out of the current scope of a native buzztouch plugin. I'm sure it can be done, though. I would suggest creating a new forum topic on just that question. Are you primarily iOS, Android, or both? Mark

Fred is correct...there's more than one way to skin a cat (I'm a cat lover...nothing bad intended there!). I'm approaching this problem from the point of using native buzztouch functionality without doing anything extra. Mark

Thanks so much for your help! I am just starting with iOS. Can I take a 2.0 app back to a 1.5 app? If not, can I delete one of the 3 apps I created?

You can't delete an app at this time, but you can just change it to something else. I don't believe you can change the app version, so you'll need to start a new one. I'm sure if you get to a point where you really need to delete one (because, for example, you want to change them all to v1.5), then I bet buzztouch will hook you up. For the moment, though, just create a new one. Mark

I want to thank you all for your help, I am starting to see the bigger picture here. I see buzztouchmods.com and www.MySkylla.com thank you. What I am looking for is a way to learn all this and create cool iOS apps using as many plugins as possible (since I do not know how to code...yet). I have read to be careful about 3rd party plugins. What is the best direction to go in to make sure I am using the safest, securest, etc process?

Hey mate, The only third party plugins available are on buzztouchmods.com - you dont have to be careful but some may have a few bugs here and there that may or may not be a minor nuisance. I've tested all third party plugins myself, and they all work great - if one doesn't work for you, simply uninstall it - it will not hurt your server or app in any way. Promise! Send me an email?
