Diary of a Novice Developer part 2

Hello fellow BT users its been ages since I have been able to be on this site. I thought it would be useful to others and myself if I was to continue a diary of my novice development as a app creator. I will be as candid and as honest as possible because this forum and site has been a great help when I have needed to develop an app and for personal reasons. The personal stuff - I had period of being out of work and whilst looking for jobs, I developed apps and this helped enormously in all interviews, and after what seemed an age I have got a job (selling wind turbines of all things). In the process of learning to write apps I found I loved it and have a massive passion to learn more. Unfortunately my partner felt apps were not a great future and not having a 'professional career'(accountant , banking etc) was also not a great future. As I look after my two beautiful daughters (Hannah and Sophie) for a great deal of my non working time it was a package that was not for her. I have been away setting up a new home for my daughters who have thrived and blossomed in a less tense environment. SO I have the opportunity now to work on the apps after work and when not traveling for work. I thought it would be useful in the future to discuss my experience of the BTU (David and BT are close to being Deities) also the following - raising the profile of apps I have developed (3 at present), - discussing new techniques, optimizing general and ad revenue, putting in new feature, learning about hosting, developing a customer and user base etc. I would also be very keen to take advice and implement it and be a sort of testing board for ideas with the apps. Kind Regards Mark

@st726: I just had a SPI marathon by listening to every one of his podcasts in a row during my commute. I especially like the parts when he talks about how his iphone app business is not a great performer since its only making $4000-8000 per month. I pity him :)

Hey Marko, welcome back to buzztouch. Your statement about app development not being a good career intrigued me. Why is it that your friend thought that? Also, what is holding you back from pursuing a job as an app developer instead of a wind turbine salesman? The reason i ask is because i want to make app development a full time career, so any insight would be useful!!

Hi Stobe and St726 - thanks for the great comments and I will check out that podcast. Hi Classic I too wish to pursue the same pathway, I have had 4 apps created 2 of which were free with small revenue coming from iads, the paid versions have done minimal amounts but have been a great first step. I think personally it is a great career and will pursue this vigorously, my partner of the time needed to see immediate results, and for me that was not feasible as I was just getting back into programming after 20 years away. Buzztouch and the forum were and are a massive facilitaor to getting me to create an app in 6 months. One of my apps has about 500 downloads a week for the (Cv/Remume Lite (Free)) and has gone in approx 30 countries. To me I see that as a successful starting point, but other people have different perspectives. I wish to fully encourage you to pursue this brilliant career Class1c and am here to give what support I can with the knowledge I have so far. I too will be working to this goal, but I also need to do a day to day job to support my family while I pursue this. I am just happy I didn't pursue a career in banking, glad I lost my application form for Lehman Bothers

Hi Paddy - You have to stop pointing guns at your children (forum pick - please no legal paper on slander) Hi MrDavid - some of your post have been so helpful in my apps thanks for your contributions. Hi MacApple - My celtic brother - if you weren't here I would be sending an elite force to rescue you from some far off country where your humanitarian work on kilts and celtic fan clubs was not being appreciated. Also ever time I hear of another certain scotish team I think of you smiling Hi Class1c thanks for your kind words my apps are Cv/ Reume lite -http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/cv-resume-lite/id498133241?mt=8 (my most popular) Buildmycareer http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/buildmycareer/id480763930?mt= Biology Exambuster http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/biology-exambuster-nerves/id510820007?mt=8 (my best so far) Pony fun http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pony-fun/id455826408?mt=8 (my First - and pushed and prodded by my daughters - it was either get the pony or make them the app. I think the kids would rather the pony.
