Downloading soundbytes for ring/textones.

Hello, If i had a 2-20 second sound clip from a movie or tv show in my app, that someone could potentially download and use for a ring or text tone, would i be breaking any copyright laws? I have spoken to several lawyers regarding this, but none have been very helpful. i was wondering if anyone in BT has looked into this or has any experience in the matter.

You are essentially offering copyrighted work for people to use without having to pay copyright fees and it isn't really fair use. Make sense? Amazing what people get away with but......

hmmm... You're right of course MacApple, but.. I used to do a lot of borderline (ahem!) stuff on youtube. (Innocent...) posting of videos containing copyrighted music got deleted as soon as they were invariably reported, but not so karaoke tracks of the same tunes. Some are still up years later. I looked into it and found that karaoke tracks are a grey area and tend to be left alone by the powers that be. Might be something for Class1c to consider..

Probably some useless DMCA notice, while staying under the sopa/pipa radar.

Nice one Ian! Maybe you've heard of http://ccmixter.org/ too? Some good creative commons stuff on there.

Hey raveyd, yes very cool site... we are working out pro tracks of various styles that will be formatted for mobile devices and ready to go for BT users... I thought especially for making quick apps and new users a nice BT library of audio loops would be useful... cool if the files are already hosted and BT members can just plug in the link and go...almost done :)
