RSS Unwanted Characters

Folks, I'm displaying this feed in an RSS Feed screen: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=b1c4bc6fd193a642c854ab4d9c2f1305&_render=rss This is fine in Firefox, resulting in (just the beginning part): The Mellow Centre 28 May 2012 19:00 I'm just back from the fantastic IATEFL TTEd and LT SIG conference in Istanbul However, in the app screen I get: I’m just back from... Can anybody help with eliminating this, please? This is a combination of two self-hosted Wordpress blogs. I've checked the databases and they're both UTF-8 and those characters do not appear in the posts in the actual blog databases. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer. Gavin

There are invalid characters in the html of the page. #8217; is one of those slanted single quotes - ’ - not standard straight up one. If you check the page source of the website in question, you'll probably see a lot of them. Solution? Not sure. Wordpress I assume? Try a different template? See if there's a plugin to fix it? **Edit** Of course it's wordpress, just re-read your post!

In yahoo pipes, under Operators select Regex. What you're going to do is replace the invalid character with the correct ones. To do this, select the item.description window, replace ’ with ' Do this with all of the others. You will likely have others with WordPress, for example, typically &#8220 needs to be replace with " And – with - But your's might be different.

Good call! Been years since I used pipes, forgot all about it. Reminds me of the horrors of cleaning up merchant csv files from affiliate companies, ughhhh!

Folks, Many thanks for this - I had just found my way to Regex but was having trouble getting it working, so shenry's advice was timely. Now, the only thing left is that this all seems a bit random - it's got rid of some of these in some of the posts, but left others in others. It appears to be doing the first one in each post, then giving up and moving on to the next... Gavin

Yes, oddly enough you sometimes have to replace the characters before and after. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. you may have already figured it out, But this seems to be a cleaned-up version of what you need, if you can you get to this: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=0bb11b9ccb77661be9552daf659f155b

Shenry, Many thanks for the example - that looks more or less like what I got to in the end. I appreciate all your help. Gavin
