Promo Codes and Reviews

On the last couple of apps I downloaded with a promo code from buzztouch developers, I have been locked out of writing and sending a review on the App Store. I am not sure if this is new. This is what the rejection says, "You must own this item to write a Customer Review. In order to write a Customer Review you must have purchased or downloaded it first." In my case, I have downloaded the app with a promo code. Any way around this? I want to write reviews on the apps that you all post, but I like to use the promo codes when I can.

Wait a couple of hours. Sometimes you have to wait a full day. For me it's been a couple of hours.

I always thought promo code purchases couldnt leave reviews. Hmmm. Someone did tell me otherwise, will have to test.

Nah they work. People that use the promo probably don't leave the app on their handset long enough to find out :)

This must have changed, wasn't always the case, almost 100% convinced. Off to Google - other search engines are available - I go.

Apple's FAQs on promo codes state specifically that anyone who uses a promo code is unable to leave comments in the app store. The only way around this, per Apple, is to purchase the app on your own.

Apple says a lot doesn't mean it don't work. The "people" are usually right.

Here's proof. Ready:). And please don't quote any apple docs afterwards:). I'm now able to leave positive feedback for this promo code/app: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=6B2F2DE1B33C459CB7A3D0F&fid=06DB0BCB08E8888&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=&currentPage=1 Heres what I wrote "Awesome use of colors, love the content you have on there. Looking forward to future apps. Buzzzzz:)". Should show up shortly.

"Should show up shortly"....Is that comment there now? ....cuz I don't see it....um yeah...bite the hand that feeds you? Not sure I would risk it. Especially being an apple developer yourself. If it is a good app the comments will come...if it is an app that you would NORMALLY buy...buy it <Don't like it get a refund>...its a win win. I have personally bought apps <in my price budget> just to see how they are formated.... - Just Saying

So, how long do you have to wait? Personally, I don't mind buying some $.99 apps for market research or to write a review for a buzztouch comrade.

Sheri: I can't control how fast reviews show up. All I'm saying is that I'm able to post reviews for promo codes. If I take a code from a dev I always make sure I provide a positive review. What's there to risk? Lol. Susan: for the cooking up from the fellow dev for me it took 24 hours to be able to post. As mentioned the review hasn't showed up yet not sure how long that takes. I tried posting a review on a free app and that one didn't show yet either. I'm curious to see how long that takes now.

I just tried putting the review through on Sheri's new app, and I couldn't get it through. That one has been about a week. Maybe it works after the code's expiration date.

Coderx: Ready for you to give me that appstore link anytime ;) Seriously...since I had to look it up cuz it was driving me nuts...I AM going to quote "https://itunesconnect.apple.com/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/10.0.0.9.1.7.1.5.1.1" According to this the comments left by promo code holders will not show up and they are good 4 four weeks or developer changes the app.... ....which brings me to the situation Susan discussed...thank you for bringing this up! What is a great app price point?.....I set mine at $9.99. Viewing others like this ranging from 24.99 to 189.99 I was unsure where to go for a good price point after my last app review from David ....I set it too "low" as mentioned here: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=BDF31A65CBA20C07795CB97 David suggested I raise the price and I did and it got GREAT results! I think I probably would of done better starting out with this app low and then go higher or even free. So buzztouch members and others can do and honest review ...I have been contacted by an University and a Non-Profit group to request to review my app...since the promo codes will not let them leave a comment ...erg...well it's kinda of a bummer....should I update stopping the promo code just to see? This is such a fantastic frustrating topic!

I was always under the impression that you couldn't leave a review if you got an app through a Promo Code but then @guisante very kindly left me one on my Trek Nepal app after using a code I posted up here... So it is definitely possible. maybe you have to have the app on your phone for a certain period as @coderx says.

@sheri i told you not to quote any Apple bs.:) So the review that i left last night has shown up, as i said it would. To conclude on my end it takes about 24 hours after downloading with a promo code to be able to post (sometimes few hours). And for the review to finally show about I guess anywhere between 2-5 hours. Here's the recent review left from this thread: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=6B2F2DE1B33C459CB7A3D0F&fid=06DB0BCB08E8888&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=&currentPage=1 The people are always right, don't believe anything Apple writes in their docs.

Actually that all makes sense!!! OK OK....maybe a little gray hat marketing But whatever works....:) It is a great topic...I probably being over cautious ...anybody with any email account can leave a comment. I think Susan just wanted me to know that she tried to leave a comment and couldn't figure out why it didn't show up...but I honest like HONEST negative reviews...I got one on another app and thank God the user emailed to let me know it was crashing...something happen during the new version that apple accepted it even though it was crashing... Fixed it and he changed the comment. ..I think I need to do different approach with promo codes...possibly free first then price appropriately....it's all about testing...wait a week and it will change Thanks for the input though gives me something to think about

@Sheri, theres a way to change comments? See I didnt know that... Yeah i got a negative review (really bad) on one of the apps. But I think its a competitor, and there is no way he will be changing his review. Luckily the rest of the reviews are all positive. I find that price points are the most difficult part. I still haven't figured that out :)
