Scringo Update

Just got this email from Scringo announcing an update. There have been lots of discussions about Scringo in the Forum so I thought you might be interested: We are happy to announce Scringo's new beta version! The main changes in this version are: A complete new UI, and more ways to customize More ways of inviting your user's friends to the app, and finding which of their friends are using it too The feed feature was completely rebuilt, and it is now possible to attach an image to the feed message, and to add a personal comment Bug fixes We will soon launch: Scringo's developer zone, where you will be able to add, customize and control your apps.  Our Android and iPad beta versions  More features, tutorials, customizations and bug fixes You'll of course be notified once it's ready!

I plan to install the update they sent out today as well. I see some versioning on this file as "120526" which looks like something they just compile on 5/26/12. The beta they sent last week was a little buggy but it had some great new add/changes that I'm dying to see mature a bit. What I'd really like to do with Scringo is a test CHAT session with a bunch of BT users. I'm tryignto understand the channels, users, just want to really see how it works in action anxious for sure to see a 'final production release!' so i can package it in the app. my client is very curious to see it!

@ATRAIN53 - I'm waiting for Elon to send me the Android beta - from your post are you saying that the beta can't be used in a released app? And if that's the case, won't it be very quiet, with almost no users, on the social layer until it gets established? If that's the case, heyzap seems a more effective solution for immediate results, albeit without the great functionality of scringo. Scringo has certainly got a lot of potential but without an existing userbase it could take a long time to see positive results.

I never use a beta anything I put out there for a client. but it does seem others have used the beta in their app. I'm hoping for a stable version that I don't have to update for a few months. Scringo is still working on the developer guide. I def want to read that. IMO it's still cooking. Smells really good, but not yet ready to serve. I still don't understand fully how it works yet myself, so can't explain it to users. I beat on every feature on multiple devices pretty hard - figure that's what the Apple reviewers might do. The last beta was a little buggy, slow to launch and display the slider. The previous version was a little faster. I also saw a post that is crashes on the ipad and I want to test that. (it's proving to be difficlut to pry that thing awauy from the wife so i can test!) heyzap looks pretty interesting - but seems mostly game based? is there a different part of heyzap i'm not seeing that is more social media?

Tried update...wonderful. At first I was thinking around how to change the default Scringo color scheme (blue) but it was so simple to adapt my app graphics a smidgen to make the blue look great.

Heyzap and scringo are basically the same concept, but scringo expands it to another level with maps, interaction etc. Heyzap is more social sharing/promotion rather than social interaction if you get what I mean? As such, I like scringo much better, but heyzap has a user base in the millions. For a better user experience I'd go with scringo, but for visibility, heyzap. I think heyzap IS mostly game based, but any app can integrate it, which makes me think it'll be more of a gamer community and less receptive to informational apps, whereas scringo would fit both demographics equally. I've spent weeks trying to weigh up the pros and cons and still can't decide which to go with!

@sepala - thanks - i'd love to get a good look at it and test it out. would be a big help to see it in action so i can learn. I just rebuilt my app with this 5/26 Scringo update. It seems to have broken my home MenuAdvanced screen and it wont display now. I just get the header image from my menu and the Scringo Slider. no menu list anymore... I noticed it was messing up that screen before on the simulator in the previous version - but was not affecting the app on the device. Now it's not working on the simulator or device itself. Time to send the guys some beat testing feedback! @ThomasB - LOL. I liked the old neutral grey slider - that looked perfect with my app! I def hope they allow us to change that color at will. it woudl be fun to change it occasionaly and hopefully not via app update.

@raveyd The question is, can Heyzap be used at all outside of the game industry? For example, I think this kind of functionality could be very nice in a little shopping app. Don't think Heyzap will support that, because it would require the elimination of any game references.

@ATRAIN53 - there is a way to customize the color of the slide out menu: In scringos .plist the panelColorType row can have a value of either 0 or 1. 0 is the default blue w/ white letters, while a value of 1 turns it white w/ blue letters. The only thing is you have to change this via update, and there's only 2 themes to choose from. Hopefully there will be more in the future!
