My app works in one phone but not others... Why?

Hi Buzztouch forum! Not a huge complaint, but is there a reason on why my app works in one phone but not the another? For example, my app works in HTC Droid Eris (old phone), but not Samsung Behold 2 (old) or Droid 4 (new). For Droid 4, the person said that he was able to download it and see the menu, but not images. Is Android always like that? Or is there something wrong with my app? Thanks!!!

Following this thread, since I helped Grace with her app, and I don't have an Android phone!

Just for your question on "Is Android always like that?" Android is such a mess of a platform to develop for, so many versions of the software, so many phones, and only one code for the app - so it's extremely difficult for android developers to make it look good or work good for all phones (although not impossible, just very, difficult/time consuming). For example I have the same issue for one of my apps, it works great on my phone - but my roommates phone - lets not even talk about how it looks on his! Best of luck, hope someone can reply and give more info. David buzztouchmods.com

The Samsung store have got the right idea, but it's massively time consuming. You have to submit your apk and all screenshots for EACH screen resolution you want to target (if you go for all screen sizes you need something like 70 screenshot and icon images of varying sizes). They check the app on each device and may approve an app for 320x480 phones but reject it for bigger phones. It's a long and painful process, but you get some great feedback and know that if it's accepted, it'll work. Versus the quality control on the biggest and most popular Android app store on the planet? Zero.

My guess is that the Droid 4 (new) is a large screen and that you need to add support for said screen. Fred

Hm... Wow, as days go by, I realize that making an app is really complicated process. I probably have not done it without GoNorthWest's help. I guess it's better to make an Apple app, isn't it?

Not necessarily better, but in some ways easier, because Apple controls the devices and the OS. So, there's much tighter integration than with Android, which is all over the place. In some ways that's better, but you could also argue that it stifles the technology. All depends on who you ask! (Don't get @Fred going on it!) Personally, I think it's easier to design for Apple, and the apps tend, in my opinion, to look nicer for iOS. But, that's just my two cents. Mark

My take is that Android is a younger platform with more options. Some will confuse that as Apple is better than Android. I could go on about all the thing Android does that iOS can't, and the few things iOS can do, that Android can't. Or about the various features that are better in each. (Siri - iOS) (localStorage - Android) But that's just a drop of the differences. Still it comes down to what's best for you. Don't have an Intel based Mac and don't have the money or don't wish to buy into iOS, then Android is for you. Have the Mac and various iDevices, then iOS may be for you. Every time an iOS user posts about how iOS is easier or better, go to the Forum and notice whom's asking for help, and you see that they're compensating for . . .(well you get the point). Personally I see iOS in my future even though I'm Android. Fred
