Phone Detect in Custom/HTML screen not working, Android, v2.0

I have created a custom html screen that houses text (visitor information) with phone numbers. In document behavior I made sure to "allow phone detection" and have formatted the number as (xxx)xxx-xxxx. The device recognizes the number when I click it (meaning it highlights the number) but nothing happens after that. This is in Android and v2.0. I saw this was an issue for past users (1.4 and 1.5) but could not find anything current (nor with visible solution). Any help is appreciated. Also - I wasn't sure if this question be posted under HTML forum or Plugins forum.

iOS has same issue. For iOS fix (on Apple's site) find link on my site. Perhaps it'll lead to Android fix. Fred

Hi Fred, once again thank you. I found the section on your site but it does not open for me. I am using Chrome. Can you check it?

The URL didn't work found new link, try it now, don't think the doc is iOS specific.

The new link works, thank you. I gave it a go and it isn't working. I am not sure I am doing this right. In the BT Control Panel, on the Custom HTML/Text screen I edited the code to include <meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=yes" /> however when I add a "<head>" the screen removes it automatically and makes it a <p>. I want to make sure I understand this correctly - should I be changing this in Eclipse somewhere? The screen is just text (like tour hours, phone numbers....), no images.

It goes between the <head> and the </head> I would place it just above the </head>, to be more specific you would need to post the head section. Fred

I tried again and it is not working. I think that the BT's Custom HTML/Text screen properties do something weird. For example - I copied and pasted the html code: <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=yes" /> </head> and I hit "Save" and when I go to check it out it does not work. Then when I go back to the Custom HTML/Text screen the screen has changed the code to: <p> <meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <meta content="telephone=yes" name="format-detection" /></p> Why does it automatically change the code to a paragraph <p>? I tried this three times and with same results and the number detection still does not work.

Update: I just clicked my "option" button on my device while on the screen and it gives me two options: 1) Ok - close 2) Open in Native Browser When I click "Open in Native Brower" it does open up the dialer with the number. It isn't as intuitive as the "Call Us" screen where you get a pop-up. I would prefer it behaves like the "Call Us" screen - is there a way to do that?

Don't know, so I would as you, "Why are you using this screen, instead of posting HTML online (say on Dropbox) and using HTML doc via URL." Fred

Actually my last answer was to the <p> question. To the last question I think the answer is tel:123-456-7890 in a link. Fred

Thanks Fred - I realize that that will work but prefer to try and make it work within the app itself. It seems counter-intuitive to be making html pages for a mobile app - like I should have just created a website instead and accessed it from my device. The beauty of a mobile app (to me) is it's streamlined and local functioning.

The Custom HTML text screen is my solution by another name. The HTML is hosted on the Control Panel as opposed to Dropbox in my solution. Both use HTML doc via URL. Only difference is you use your own text editor. To keep it within the app use HTML doc embedded in the app. The tel:1-234-567-8900 in a link should work for you.
