Xcode for windows machine!

Hi everyone, I am a little disapointed that I came to buzztouch only to realise that I cant develope anything apple orientated as I dont have "Xcode"/IOS machine! :-( Wish this may have been explained before all the signing in and tutorials were started! Is there a way to dev IOS apps on a windows machine? GNUstep? thanks again!

Here's how for windows: http://ipodtoucher55.blogspot.ca/2010/12/installing-ios-sdk-and-xcode-on-windows.html?m=1 If the tutorial above doesn't help try googling Xcode on windows. Side note: Apple may suspend your dev account if they discover you are using a none Apple machine.

To be fair, that's not really a buzztouch issue. Due diligence would have revealed that Xcode is for Apple, not Windows!

Due diligence indeed. @barbs666 You can pick up an Intel Macbook or Mini for $300 earth dollars and it will be more than capable of running Eclipse and Xcode. It does have to be an Intel Mac though. Welcome to BT, don't be down about the xcode thing, BT is ze BESTestest site on ze interwebs for ze app creationz and ze lively debatez. Ps Today I will be mostly talking and typing as if I had consumed my own body weight in Kentucky Bourbon and Mexican peyote last night.

Due dilligence is like saying a baby needed to know the stove was hot before they touched it with no prior knowledge :-) Unfortunately, my app development knowledge is small and so is my "IOS" knowledge. But thanks for the constructive replies, I will lookie lookie and keep trying..... I wish I could have a bourbon.... Doe.

@barbs666 Sending some bourbon breath your way. The beauty of Buzztouch is that the majority of new signs up over the last 2 years have, like yourself, had limited knowledge of iOS app development, myself included. Folks on here have helped 1000's of people get started, setup and publishing apps, many make a good second income and some have even quit day jobs and solely make apps for a living, all thanks to BT. If you are serious, get your hands on an Intel Mac before you know it you'll be posting a link to your newly published iPhone app, the feeling of acceptance from the App Store ninjas is almost second to none. Have a great day! Mac. Ps. due dil·i·gence Noun: Reasonable steps taken by a person in order to satisfy a legal requirement, esp. in buying or selling something.

I am in the same boat as far as only having a windows machine, however I do plan on getting a mac that I will likely only use for development. Everything else, like animation and design will be done on my hp Touchsmart of course.

no need to point fingers you just need to over come this hurdle. Either buy a mac or borrow one. Overcoming problems is a huge part of developing an app so this will be your first task. Good luck Magic_Man

Hey, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. There are a lot of people here who will compile your app for you in XCode. You can also try fiverr.com, or elance. Before I took the steps to figure out how to do it myself, I paid a guy in India to compile my iOS app twice for me. Once to get it on my iPod and test it and perfect it, then once again once I had the app like I wanted it to upload to the app store. I would advise you so stay away from running a Windows machine as a virtual Mac. If you want to, go to eBay and get a Mac mini or Macbook; just make sure it is an Intel and not PowerPC (older) Mac. The PowerPC macs are worthless.

I am willing to compile any app you might have. I would suggest that just for now, run a virtual machine and use iOS Simulator to view your work. After, just send me the file and I would be more then happy to compile it for you....send you pictures or video. Of course if you have the money...may God set you free and buy a Mac. The Intel Core 2 Duo is all you need to run Xcode. They are aluminum like the MacBook Pros. You can get one for in the $275-$300 range. If you want the i5 (the newest Mac Mini) you can get one for around $450-$500. I use Craigslist. I buy and sell mac products monthly and as long as you're not stupid you won't get screwed.

Thanks everyone for the constructive replies! :-) I will go to find a cheap Mac to run this on. I should be able to get one to run for app dev :-) Thanks to all for the offer to compile the app!

Cool!! Good choice!! Just be absolutely 100% sure that it is NOT a Power PC Mac, and it's an Intel Mac. I think if it was made after 2006 or 2007, it's Intel, but you have to check. I got mine on eBay for around $300 or so. If you are really strapped on cash, you can get one on eBay that has a broken screen and ask the seller if it works with a VGA adapter and an external monitor. That is, if it's a laptop and not a Mac Mini. The Mac Minis are really sweet, and you can find them on Craigslist a lot. @lsills81 - I've heard of a lot of people having a business model buying and selling Apple products - Macs, iPhone, and iPods. Would you mind talking to me for a few minutes offline, either on the phone or skype, about how you're doing it? I'm in Birmingham Alabama. I think you can PM me, or send me an email if you want - [email protected]
