Facebook IPO (Just an aside)

What were they thinking? In my Feb 23rd I noted: "An interest fact is that Facebook makes most of it's money on display ads on desktops. It makes almost zero on mobile devices." Mobile devices rule and the PC is dead. Both Apple and MicroSoft agree. Why were the bankers so blind? Is Facebook the next AOL? The next Yahoo? Fred

****EDIT**** ****All allegedly!**** The lack of revenue in mobile has been touted around the tech and financial field for last year, Facebook have made no inroads at all. It wasn't a case of being blind, it was a case of making 7 figure trades in opening day and falsely stating revenue and forecasts. MZ and MS knew.

Interesting question is, "Who was taken to the cleaners?" The trading public didn't buy in, hence the free fall. The the bankers take a hit, or did they lay it off on their clients (funds)? Mark Z should either be given the P T Barnum award or tarred & feathered or both. Fred There's a sucker born every minute "There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase often credited to P. T. Barnum (1810–1891), an American showman. Though this phrase is often credited to Barnum it was actually said by his opponent Hull.

The only real winner in all of this is the creator of Instagram. They got paid for less than a year or so of work.

^^ so true. i really think Instagram is built on Aviary and just uses some simple RSS and hacked standard forum code that they probably borrowed. those filters sure look familiar if you have used Aviary. speaking of IPO's - i'm still amazed at Groupon turning down @ 6 BILLION from Google and going their own IPO. you never turn down that much money. I have 3 friends that work there and all of them say internally lots of employees were pretty unhappy they did as well since many would have made BANK. now they are working even harder to build the company back up to that value. knowing that, i thought this was a pretty interesting read in the paper here today @ Groupon... http://www.suntimes.com/photos/galleries/12726391-417/groupons-mason-shares-tales-of-early-failures.html i'm still holding some AOL stock in hopes it turns around.....LOL.

But wait - there's more... >>Facebook launches iPhone camera app http://news.yahoo.com/facebook-launches-iphone-camera-app-170729532--finance.html >> Who's going to be the first BT'er to integrate this into their app?
